One of the really tough knots in this series. Would you help someone 40 years from now you don't even know? Especially if you won't be around? Humans have devised systems to do that, one of which is lying on the table there next to Relay's terminal. We do it because it is a part of what makes us human. Survival and helping others is coded into our DNA, and also the shared consciousness of humankind.And Nat and Kit are giving up their freedom, their entire lives, when in all honesty - they shouldn't care.

As you said, it makes us human. And no matter your belief on the climate change issue, at its heart is that same proposition: would you limit yourself to potentially help people you'll never be able to meet.
And now I'm going to slowly back away from the trap that I set for myself... 😉
