Description

I may not have a grand tale to spin today.

There was no great event, no drama.

It was just a quiet day.

We had all gone out for a walk, the only goal being to get everyone, most especially Milla, out of the house.

The weather had been a bit rough, keeping us locked away, though this day was clear and fine and glorious.

So, once again, the Gorgeous Gaggle and myself, still at full strength, meandered down the hill to town.

We all had coffee at our favorite cafe, Ana and Milla sharing a bowl of ice cream, something that has become a tradition. We all enjoyed the crisp sea breeze.

Calm, relaxed and happy.

No one was in any rush to go home, so a walk around the park was suggested.

Rada and Venice, who were very quickly becoming good friends opted to go shopping in the market. They had spent a lot of time together since Rada began her coaching in earnest. I feel they have connected out of mutual respect. It was nice to see Rada, who does not open herself up easily, find someone who she could be natural with. She smiled more than usual, and was a lot more talkative. Venice, and her work, could only benefit as well.

That left the four of us, Ana and Milla, Erin and myself.

We poked along slowly, split into our respective pairs. Ana and Milla had crept ahead , talking between each other. Ana would occasionally look back and Erin and I, grinning. What her amusement was I can't say. She was happy, that's all I cared about.

Erin led me to a bench to sit for a while. We looked out over the bay, watching a few local boats taking advantage of the break in the weather. We sat close, Erin's head on my shoulder, not speaking, only watching.

Time went by, how much was irrelevant. It was nice.

I felt Erin nudge my arm, when I looked at her she nodded towards Ana and Milla standing a few meters away.

I will admit, my heart soared.

They stood under a tree, sparse of leaves in the early winter. Ana had her arms wrapped around Milla in a way that was protective, but so incredibly gentle. Their faces were close, their bodies closer. Ana was speaking softly. Milla was entirely focused on her words, eyes wide, her expression soft, adoring, a smile playing on her lips as Ana spoke. I am not sure I have seen anyone look at another person like that, so completely trusting.

I recalled one day, alone at the cafe, overhearing locals speaking of "les roses rouges." It was not for a while did I realise that they were in fact referring to Ana and Milla. Our girls, the Red Roses. I thought they were poking fun, and was ready to go into battle for them. After listening some more I could tell that no insult was meant.

I've heard it used since, always with respect and a smile. They saw what they had in each other and approved. My two beautiful redheads had half the town in love with them.

I have not told them of this nickname. That is something for the town to keep.

I felt Erin grip my arm tight, and move closer to me, and we both watched this display of absolute love. I wondered for a moment if her and I would one day look at each other like that, which bought an ache, unnamed and wonderful, to my heart.

There is a word we often overuse, throwing it around like confetti. Placing no more import to it as if we were describing a plate of waffles and strawberries. We are all guilty of that.

As I looked at our red roses, I knew that if you took that word, gave its true and almost infinite meaning, and applied it to what I could see before me, what these two woman had found in each other, their love and trust, depth-less and complete.

It was beautiful.

So we'll just call this a character piece. Something to give these women a bit more life outside of the confines of my tired old head. I had the idea of the 'red roses' while I was playing around with these two. When I fiddled with camera angles, doing the odd iray preview, I saw the look on Milla's face and knew it had to be the focus, and had to be SFW. I did not want 'lust' be a factor. Changed the setting to 'our favorite park' and set it to render.

Something about it appealed to the screaming kicking romantic I thought I had beaten into silence and locked in the basement.

These two women, though they be completely imaginary, have a way of lifting my heart when I need it. Anyone who has a love like theirs is blessed.
