Description Here's a thing for 's Helpful Heroine Tips art jam.  More info located here:

The Heroine Tips Art Jam!I had a funny idea of doing a short series of images that would be tips, tricks, suggestions, warnings, secrets, and the like for new or aspiring heroines. The idea was that a number of veteran heroines got together and put a "training manual" together to teach the new up-an-coming heroines the tricks of the trade, and help them avoid some of its pitfalls.
Then I thought, "Hey, there's an awful lot of artists out there who might have some fun with this, and they'd each have their own spin on things, which would make it that much better. So, I figured I'd invite you all you join me!
So, first things first:
1.) This isn't a contest. It's not about winning or prizes, this is just for fun. So have fun!
2.) This isn't all about heroines getting trussed up and gagged. Don't get me wrong, it's one of my favorite things and I certainly hope to see it, but I imagine a flying heroine has a story or two about dodging a flock of birds, and maybe some basic wisdom about how best to avoid them. Or u

If I make a joke about what really happened to MH370 is it too soon or just in general bad taste?

Useful tip for all the flying heroines out there! Thank you Cardinal; this will be quite helpful. Though I'm sure it will hurt in the morning

Cardinal: 'Hi guys!'
Plane Pilot: 'Get out of the ****ing way you lunatic!'
I am imagining the plane tooting a loud horn like an oncoming train I wonder if they have a horn...hmm, does this qualify as Cardinal's first peril scenario? Getting run over by a plane is an interesting way to start. I assume she will be fine though...nothing could hurt someone with that smile

RenderPretender In reply to Cracoviia [2017-12-10 00:56:59 +0000 UTC]

No, planes don't have horns.  LOL

As for peril, I guess it does qualify.  She'll only get out of this predicament on a wing and a prayer.

Oh really? What's it called I'll look it up and give it a listen. I like a lot of their stuff but I'm not to familiar with most of it; Metal is one of the genres I prefer but I tend to listen to the Alestorm (pirate metal), Týr (viking metal), Powerwolf, or Turisas pandora stations that I made just to name a few.

Like I explained to Lespion below...

I know the physics involved in seeing an aircraft (speed of light to your eye) and hearing the aircraft (speed of sound to your ear) but in Imagination Land, much like Cartoon Land, I think it is much simpler to believe she can't hear a subsonic aircraft sneaking up on her than it is to believe she has wings sprouting out of her back capable of getting her to 35,000 ft.

LOL

My first thought after "OUCH!" was "How are they going to explain the brown streak on the radar dome and windscreen once they land?"

I know ... I know I have a sick mind!

Great image though RP!

LOL, have you seen what one "regular" size bird does to an aircraft windscreen or engine?  There's no landing that thing if she gets hit, LOL.

Thanks bud!

Oh yeah I lived on Navy bases and have been around pilots for a good chunk of my life. Kind of reminds me of that story when a reporter asked a sniper what he thought the last thing going through a terrorists mind was when he shot them. My bullet.

Thanks for putting a smile on my face first thing this morning.

paws4thot In reply to ShadowhawkOne [2017-12-11 15:21:47 +0000 UTC]

I can believe that.

In another example, a reporter once asked a WO1 (like a Gunny only British Army) what the most dangerous weapon they had in Gulf 2 was.
The deadpan reply was "A Rupert (newly graduated 2nd Lt) with a map."

Yeah, I remember watching old safety videos while I was in the Air Force.  Two clips that always scared the crap out of me was the one of the AWACS in Alaska that sucks a goose into the engine seconds after takeoff and crashes, killing everyone on board.  By the way, as far as I know, the only AWACS ever lost.

The second clip I remember that always sent a chill down my spine was a Navy video on board an aircraft carrier during night ops.  Ground crew operating in low light conditions walks in front of a running E6 Prowler (I think it was an E6, I guess it could have been an A6 Intruder) engine, gets sucked head first into the intake.  His helmet saved his life, thankfully, but from what we were told he lost both his eyes and his hearing in the accident.

I had to look that one up ... wow. Those birds are old but they are really taken care of especially today with as many hours they have on those air frames. I found an article on it and it sounds a lot like that US Airways flight 1549 that ended up in the Hudson river. Our base is right off the flight line for BIAP (Baghdad International Air Port) and all of the military and civilian traffic in and out ... not even going to mention that big assed Antonov AN-124 that comes in on a regular basis that a bird falling short or even worse not not rotating by the end of the runway is always a danger. During the height of the war over here and when ISIS was knocking on the door to Baghdad, there were several flights that ended up with holes in the air frame thanks to a crazy bastard with an AK.

I have seen that video as well, and he actually survived that with without permanent damage. My dad and I used to go up in a Cessna 172 all the time when I lived in Ks. The only time I ever got nervous was when we would fly in the fall when the Canadian's were migrating(geese not people).
