Charmander: A cross between a lizard (I looked at the Basilisk for this one) and a Salamander such as the Red Eft. To me Charmander is more reptilian, hence why the legs and tail are the only real salamander-like qualities. And unlike my previous Charmander, I just don't see it walking on two legs everywhere. Maybe in a quick sprint, but unless I added raptor aspects (which I didn't want too) he's on all fours for now. Charmander is the 'Lizard Pokémon' afterall (although I think Nintendo sometimes messes those descriptions up. Snivy a grass snake? Blastoise a shellfish?).
Cyndaquil: To me, good old Cyndy is not a rat. I based it off a Shrew. My ideas of Cyndaquil's flames are much like the quills on a Porcupine. They can grow at will (unlike the Porcupine) and are highly flammable, but can be shaken off or broken on contact like the Porcupine (apparently they are not projectile).
Torchic: No brainer; it's a chick. I added some tiny claws on it's wings as back in the day in the evolution of birds they had claws there. Besides, all the evolutions have claws so...
Chimchar: Some people think it's a chimp, but I prefer other types of monkeys. Therefore I based him on a mix of a Rhesus Macaque and a Francois Leaf-Eating Monkey.
