Description Geronimo, Apache born in1829 in the Bedonkohe subtribe. He was fourth of a family of 4 boys and 4 girls. 4 of his children have been killed by mexicans and 4 have been held in bondage by the us government.
As a young man he had a vision in which a spirit voice told him bullets could not kill him, and so it proved, though his body was riddled with more than half a dozen wounds. He died a prisoner of war at fort sill.
`It is my land, my home, my fathers land, to which i now ask to be allowed to return. I want to spend my last days there, and be buried among those mountains. If this could be I might die in peace, feeling that my people, placed in their native homes, would increase in numbers, rather than diminish as at present, and that our name would not become extinct`
He never got home..despite promises that had been made when he surrendered to the us army on september 3 1886... The Apaches got out of exile only in 1913 when they were moved to the Mescalero reservation.

You caught the pain and sorrow in his eyes, but the grim determination to fight on in the set of his jaw.  If the government is thinking of replacing Andrew Jackson on the $20.00 bill, then I would nominate Geronimo as one of several choices of Native Americans for that honor.

Speaking from experience (I’m Cherokee) Native Americans tend to have extremely fine body hair to the point of being nearly invisible. The eyebrows are often thin and light in color like mine, but not always.

Also, the Lady Veterinarian I live with is Apache and an indirect descendant of Geronimo, and she sends her complete approval. So much Native American art by non-Indians (and by many who are) tends to be a bit cheesy. You allow the subject to speak for itself without stereotypical icons. She also remarked how much it would look like her grandfather if the nose was a little smaller.

oh please save that sarcasm for someone else.

there is NO NATION on this planet (including the many many many instances of tribal warfare) that is not built on the bones of another.

As long as smarmy comments like that are brought up there will never be peace.

but let's be honest some people NEED to pretend they are victims, even when they are not.

Was he pure-blood Native American? As far as I know, pure-blood NA's don't have facial hair (eyebrows, beard, mustache, or sideburns)

renemarcel27 In reply to action-figure-opera [2012-01-01 19:31:58 +0000 UTC]

They probably all have hair. Probably more in an Asian way and not like caucasian man. But I do know that within many tribes it was as custom to remove facial hair.
