Description
Drip... Drip... Drip...I watched the drop's descent until it collided with the cold concrete below me, staining the dull grey an exquisite scarlet.
Scarlet... Scarlet... Scarlet...
What a beautiful colour. It had already stained my hands with its inexplicable beauty. Now it was making its way down to my elbow, using the faint shape of my carotid as a highway, I presume. Another pearl of perfection smashed into the concrete, then slithered into a crack. I leaned down to watch as it probed around, looking for another trail to travel. It was always exploring... I diverted my attention to my arm again and twisted it, watching as the tiny drop sped around and around.
Round and round and round...
"Whee..." I whispered as the small beauty traced a trail down my arm.
The others had stopped plunging to the ground. They wanted to join the fun. Eagerly, they rushed down my arm, making patterns as they weaved in and out. They were beautiful. Their grace astounded me. It was... It was a dance. Yes, that was it. My, how--
A groan resounded behind me. "Shut up!" I hollered from my squatting position. I rose to face the origin of the sound, my eyes meeting the mangled almost-corpse behind me when I whip around. I brandished the wrench and took a small step forward, sending him into a pseudo-silent whimper. I made him beautiful. And this is how he repays me! I had bathed him in scarlet, letting it stain his skin so he could be perfect, too. He was gorgeous: exquisite even. Although mangled, the scarlet had washed away his imperfections. I had known from the first moment I saw him the scarlet would love him, too. It had oh-so-willingly caressed his skin. He was perfect now, yet he didn't seem to realize it. Perhaps he needed to get used to the idea.

That will definitely be a "selling point" of sorts as many patients may think their doctors don't have any clue what its like.
Lol yes, what I meant by the parental negligence part is parents who don't watch their kids and they go off and get into trouble, thus ending up jail. Ditto on the brawlers though.

Ah, okay. I get ya now. XD Yeah, it really helped knowing that they had been through what we were going through and I've been able to help a lot of people through doing the same thing.

So happy you got through that and you had all those people to support and understand you. Restores a little of my faith in the whole thing, hehe. Where were/are you?
Why is it not recommended for them to do so? That's kinda weird. See, there's the problem right there; shrinks are encouraged to be cold and objective, which is good when analyzing issues and illnesses, but there must be compassion for real human beings too.
I agree, a lot of criminals are misunderstood. Heck, most of them are in jail for stupid reasons (pot, dumb fights and stunts, parental negligence) and I read somewhere that jails and prisons tend to provide better psychiatric care than many facilities so a lot of mentally ill people end up there. Depends on what state/country though.
Also, I lurve psychological thrillers. I'll have to check out more of your stuff soon. Thanks for the watch as well!

Most of my good stuff isn't on here, though. Lol. They weren't encouraged to but it was like an official rule and not one that they followed. I'm not sure why. I just know that most of them used to be patients, too, somewhere else and they would tell us about it so we knew that they could relate. That's why I love that I've been through this because then I can tell the people I help "Hey, I've been there."
I agree about that most of them are taking up space that needs to be used for murderers, but it's still legitimate reasons that they're in there. I wouldn't want a bunch of potheads and abusive parents and brawlers running around.

Yeah, people automatically assume that because Hollywood always portrays the most severe, dramatic version of it. I think it would be much more effective if they kept it subtle; like you know there's something really off about them but don't know what. Anyway, that's a great goal to have in life. I want to be a psychologist too, because I'm fascinated by the mind and really want to help people.
Something tells me there's a shortage of mental health professionals who really care, which makes folks put off on treatment until its too late.

Exactly. I'm really glad to have been put in a psych ward for a week because I got to see that at least two of the mental healthcare facilities here care about you more than just drugging you and getting their paycheck. I went off the deep end for a bit and was diagnosed bipolar (which I suspected for a while but now my actions and personality make a lot more sense) and was put in one over here. The techs and doctors actually cared where we went in life after leaving there and they took the time to have heart-to-hearts with us even though it wasn't "recommended" for them to. They actually taught us life lessons that went beyond mental health and could be applied to everyday life. And the outpatient classes were just as thoughtful and amazing. I would love to work there, but since I was a patient I'm not allowed to.
Two guys there (one a tech and the other a patient) both said something like "Man! You authors really take your work seriously, huh?" At first I was confused and then he brought up the fact that I had said I was a psychological thriller writer. He was like, "You're definitely hardcore about your research, coming in here." So all the other patients joked with me about that for the rest of the week saying I was "studying them and using them as subject matter." Everyone was really kind in there and we've got a kind of support group going now. Now I'm quick not to judge criminal activity without finding a lot about the criminal since seeing that a lot of them want to change and a lot are vulnerable. Plus, I can relate to them in some way since bipolars have schizophrenic tendencies and the manic stage can get pretty much sometimes, especially coupled with insomnia.
Anyway, there's my life story! XD Jk.

Yeah, the mind of a killer really is a complex and alien contraption. Most disturbing are the ones who seem to have no rhyme or reason besides pure sadism (hell, I doubt highly many of them even truly know why) but others are more driven/delusional and that makes them really scary. Some even believe they're "culling the herd" so to speak, hence the frequency of prostitutes and other so-called "unfortunates" being picked off.
I find the psychology of killers extremely fascinating as well. Its like they're totally different creatures wearing human faces. Its so weird, and I agree, the more you understand something, the better you can combat it. Who knows; maybe we'll find a cure for psychopathy and lack of empathy somewhere down the road once we understand the brain more.

Yep! Many psych wards are claiming it has to do with a disconnection between the emotional part of the brain and something else. Lol. I can't remember the video they showed us. But that's what affects bipolars and schizophrenics. And the majority of killers are sociopaths, narcissists, schizophrenics. The one thing I hate about that though is immediately people assume that a schizo is a person who hears voices and acts all crazy. THat's not the case. That is the most extreme form and often can be controlled by the person themselves, there are few compared to the many schizos out there that become serial killers. Most are just a bit off sometimes and you can tell their minds isn't all there, or they talk too fast and jump from one subject to another without a link between them (because their mind is racing so fast that they've already thought through the link, the person they're talking to just hasn't heard them say it). Anyway, yeah. I'm really excited for studying psychology. I would study criminal psychology, but I'm sort of self-taught with that. Plus, I want to help special needs children (I feel so bad calling them that...) before some of them grow up to commit crimes, whether they know it or not.

Awesomely disturbing. I love how you managed to add a strange sort of beauty to the macabre through the narrator's twisted eyes, but at the same time showing how ugly it really is. The tone of it is really unsettling and leave no doubt in the reader's mind that someone is seriously off their rocker.

Yay! Nice to know. That's what I was going for. A lot of people don't realize that some serial killers think like this. Some are obsessed with the colour red and think they're making their victims beautiful. Some think they're finally giving their victim peace. And some have even more twisted ideas like mixing up dreams with reality or mentally spliting the person into two different people (I've written a short story about that, too). But most reject that it's even a person they're doing this to. They see them as an object. Lol. I get way too into criminal psychology.
THANKS! I enjoy the feedback. It's good to know I'm getting across the message I wanted to. It's nice to try to understand and get others to understand the killers in the world. The more we know, the more we can do.

You should totally keep writing this story, I love it! This is a great intro to what I know will be a great story that flirts with insanity and true hemophilia (I always wondered why the word generally means the genetic disease, as it's roots mean 'Lover of Blood', or one who is sexually aroused by blood. The way this is written is great :3
