Description
Jellyfish Made from a foam thing that held an Asian pear, and a plastic bag. I wanted to make a "bloom" of jellyfish to hang in my kitchen skylight, but now I can't find more of those foamy things.*edit* after a little searching online , I find these are called "Fruit wrapper trays" and the minimum order seems to be 1500 of them, at a cost of over $300, shipped from China. Pity.
On to modifying pop bottles, or other garbage!!

This is so beautiful and to think it's been made out of trash I agree with someones comment on color changing led, or even subtle coloring of the foam and plastic bag (if that possible
). I hope you will find the foamy things you're looking for! I wish I could help but I don't even remember coming across such wrapper in any shop I've been to

A friend gave me some beautiful diachronic plastic wrapping paper to use for my next jelly fish! We are collecting improved jellyfish components.

Depending on where your from perhaps just buy more asian pears. I know the H mart and Joon boong Market carries them in these foam thingies. If you have a nearby china town there should be a plethora

Very VERY imaginative.
I would have never been able to make this because I hate pears.

Awesome!
I think it'd look great with a color changing led in it too. I imagine a lit bloom of these in the dark would look spectacular!
I'll have to keep my eyes out for those wrapper things at the market.

I would! -if I could find pears with this kind of wrappers on them! The pear packers have changed the kind of wrappers they use, now the packers use net-like ones.

Not these pears, they are kinda tasteless, but crunchy and refreshing in a tasteless way.

Try a farmer's market if you have one local. Ours has a couple of vendors that carry Asian vegetables, and I'm pretty sure I've seen some of them wrapped in foamy things. Obviously not locally grown ... >.> but some things you don't generally find in the grocery store, either.

You can make a dandy jellyfish out of almost any round, bowl-shaped thing and a plastic bag. Lampshades and clear plastic umbrellas work too.

This looks great, I've just spent ages searching for those foam things! 'EPE foam wrapper' with 'fruit' or 'lotus' turns up results but they're always sold in large bulk Guess you just ask your local supermarkets?

Reptangle In reply to Phyllipa [2012-04-09 20:45:33 +0000 UTC]
I always watch for them in the supermarkets, but I think all the markets around here have gone "green" and nobody packs fruit in foam things anymore.

This is cool. Β In our local Asian stores they sell fruit wrapped up in foam, but unfortunately I think it is a different pattern, more like a foam-fishnet style. Not sure how that could be used.

All the Asian pears I have seen in stores are wrapped in those fishnet type things. I keep looking for the jellyfish shaped ones!
