Description
Two hippogriffs.I painted the grey one in photoshop, then I repositioned him and messed with the color to make the Palomino colored one.
These are unfinished.
I colored of the grey one by using the clone stamp to copy the colors of a monotone grey piece of clay I put in the sun and photo'd.
This exercise was to learn about the color of shadows.

The lighting works beautifully in this piece. And I really like the way you subtly merged the head shapes of horse and eagle - very well done.

I particularly like the way you worked in subtle bits of lavender and blue into those shadows. Β The effect makes these guys look slightly, but not overwhelmingly, iridescent. Β

Thanks ! This was a study of shadow colors. I photographed a piece of grey clay out in the sunlight and clone stamped the colors it had to get the reflections...like under the wings and back of the head.
Β Cheating I guess, but that's a way to learn. Learning to paint is on my bucket list

Omg I love this piece, you see so many hippogriffs with a horses head. These are so nicely blended with the horses cheek and the beak ^_^
I would love to see these sculpted ^_^ and this one has become my new desktop

I love that you've given their faces more equine-like features. Agreed with cricketflint.

You put your own touch on a famous mythical creature. Rather than its front half being eagle, and back being horse, you combined them all over, and it shows. They have the basic anatomy of a horse, with a few additions. I especially love their necks. You can see the great muscle, even when it is covered in feathers.
Don't stop drawing!

Very, very nice job! As the other commenters have said, the combination of equine and eagle features is masterfully done, and the feather texture looks so real I could almost touch it.

I love the horsey jaw shape with the bird beak! They even have horsey-shaped nostrils. I've never seen anything quite like it. It's a really cool synthesis.
