I love the colors! - 'n if I saw him come up in the store I think I might try my hand at him! I think the current one is cute, but there is a lil something more to this that I like (Well, something more, beyond color haha)

Reptangle In reply to KaytanaPhoenix [2012-01-20 18:38:37 +0000 UTC]

I'll see if we can locate the "master" sculpture, or mold. We need the master to make more molds from. Then we will need to come up With horns! I am working on it.

I heard about the horn issue (or at least that gettin them made is being difficult, I'm not sure what happened that caused them to be difficult) -- I was just puttin in my vote for 'em Not tryin to rush anything, you get 'em when you get em! I know you're a very busy woman right now!

I'm sorry! I wish I knew of a way to help out with it! Hopefully whatever it is there is some way to remedy the issue at some point (and save your hair heh).. It's hard to miss that whatever it is has been a rough situation without an easy fix

Can you do a limited release of the prototype sculpt for PYO artists in the store? I would love to give those ridged scales a shot.

Reptangle In reply to WampusDragon [2011-12-19 02:34:11 +0000 UTC]

This prototype pyo kirin isn't available right now, but maybe if folks want them, I'll see if I can find the "master" with raised scale edges.. if I can locate it, I will see if we can make some. This may take awhile!

WampusDragon In reply to Reptangle [2011-12-19 03:05:00 +0000 UTC]

I'm sure if you had a handful cast and put in the store they would sell out. Even if they cost a little more than the current pyo ki-rin.

I wholeheartedly agree!! Melody, I LOVE this prototype with the raised scales. I even love the forked horn - it gives the kirin a more wild look that I really love. *begs for some to be cast*

Force-Flux [2011-11-08 06:57:42 +0000 UTC]

Wow, even if the production kirin is accurate to the original family, I love this design. Maybe an 'ancient kirin' like the grands in the other equine families with this design would do quite nicely

Also how you antiqued those dark browns in the fur to show so easily is a feat I wish I knew!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Reptangle In reply to Force-Flux [2011-11-08 19:12:52 +0000 UTC]

I antiqued the fur by giving the whole thing a good coating of clear finish, then the next day, I airbrushed dark brown acrylic paint onto it, by spraying tiny sections at a time so I could wipe it off cleanly before it stuck.
Using actual acrylic paint to "antique" is a scary way to antique pieces though, because the acrylic paint will permanently stick in the wrong places if you don't move quick enough!

Force-Flux In reply to Reptangle [2011-11-08 22:48:42 +0000 UTC]

Ohhh clear coating makes sense! I antique with acrylic all the time, and always have a problem of it 'staining' the original color regardless how quickly I wipe it off. Thank you so much Melody! ^__^

Love the kirin! I prefer the original colours however (golden browns and white shimmer) Still it does make it look like its supposed to look like a statue! (if that makes sence). Paint your own is a great idea seems like fun. I really wish I had money.

Biorave [2011-11-08 01:45:12 +0000 UTC]

I don't remember seeing this. What was the deciding factor in making the scales smooth?
The smooth scales are nice and allow for a lot of different experimentation since the paint works and settles differently, so I'm not dissing them. This is a really appealing look though, the raised edges give it a more traditional orient look.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Reptangle In reply to Biorave [2011-11-08 19:17:02 +0000 UTC]

I felt that the edges on the scales were too limiting for other artists. I intended these pyos to be more like a "blank canvas" for other people's creative content.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Biorave In reply to Reptangle [2011-11-08 19:25:51 +0000 UTC]

That makes a lot of sense, it would definitively have limited a lot of different things to do with them for sure.

I like the deer antler a lot more in the kirins, myself-- BUT! They fit better with your line with the smooth horn.
