Description
Unicorns were the essence of the early eighties. This is a detail of one of the scratch board ( also called "scraper board") Unicorn drawings I did. This was a line of prints published by Alberti Design.Related content

This is by far one of my most favorite illustrations of a unicorn I have ever seen. I love your design for the horn.Β

Really? And here I thought it was just because it's a phase all little girls go through... Those textures are gorgeous. All the little details give it a Durer kind of feel.

Before the late 70'S, I don't think little girls went through that phase. People thought unicorns were weird, and kinda creepy before then.

Ah. So like Jim Henson movies I'll chalk it up to being a child of the era!
Now you're making me wonder what revived them from the late middle ages into the 70s of all times...

Fantasy as a genre' went nuts in the 70's. Before then, there really wasn't much mainstream fantasy in places like gift stores.
I think the Dungeons and dragons game had a lot to do with it.

Ah, as a kid a little later I kind of grew up with it as background imagery. Though I didn't read much as a teen (Terry Brooks put me off it until I was introduced to Gaiman and Pratchett in college) I always liked the art.

Did you do this? I remember this image when I was a young girl and made a wall quilt using this as the quilting desing for fun, I loved it so much. This is a close up crop of the full version. Wonderful scratch work, very detailed like I remember.

You have no idea what a trip that is for me. That image has been in my life on my wall for decades. I was in my twenties, my hippy days! O.K. now I am feeling old. I bought it in a Mall in Burbank California. One of the very few prints I have ever bought.

This has been the neatest thing for me talking with you. A very long time fan of your art.

Masterfully done! Anyone who has spent any time at all with horses or the like would recognize those hair patterns. They look so good it reminds me of my days spent working with horses...
