Did you not read? I said if you have opinion that's fine.
BUT if you don't want to hear mine or any of the others on here ripping you a new one because of your insensitivity, don't post 'em. Got it? Good.
I keep seeing people like you post on hard working artist's work saying it should be free or it's not priced fair. It's not up to you to say what should be priced as what. If I went into a game stop and told them that the new PS4 is too expensive and that they should just give it to me for free they would laugh in my face.
I don't mean to sound so vicious, but honestly, in the past few weeks I have seen an buttload of comments like yours.
When I read comments I think everyone else and the artist wants to see nice things, or constructive crit. It's etiquette. Which seems to be lacking in some peoples melons.

As for some reason you will not respond to my response to you and would rather engage other people here, I'm just going to hide your comments and be done with them. From what I've observed, however, you're just here to put yourself above others and hardly give any viable reasons for someone to even consider your opinion. You may see this as a waste of money but you should consider you're wasting your (and everyone else's) time by continuing to prod at and insult people who don't have the same opinion as yours but at least offer up a reasonable explanation as to why it is so.

Hmm...
So may I ask? What if the positions were reversed?
Do you believe it's alright to ask for what you believe your product is worth, for the hours you put in, the skill it took and the materials used?
I ask, because I think sometimes people only want bargains (which I can totally understand) but they never really stop to think about what it takes to create the product. And who misses out when the prices are cut.
For a student who only works part time and has to pay some living expenses (like myself), $100 could go a long way. So I can see why you'd use the expression "might as well wipe your butt with that money" but doesn't that seem harsh to the artist? It's almost like saying, yeah, you worked hard, you can't mass produce these items, they took time and creativity, but they're such a waste of money.
You've got to remember that for most people who make adopts like these, they're not getting $100 a day. Sometimes, they're not getting $100 a month.
I know your intention probably wasn't to offend the artist, or the buyer, but simply to state your stance, but I think by saying its a waste, you're kind of saying that both parties are stupid.
But I disagree, if you want something enough, you'll pay whatever the price is. And if you work hard on something, you have a right to charge what you find reasonable (within reason) If nobody buys your product, it is then that perhaps you need to reevaluate.
I might have gone slightly off topic here, but I think I kind of got my viewpoint across.

I would never sale anything. It would be free or for points. Not real money.

Elieda In reply to MotleyCrueAndMCRFan [2013-03-20 00:50:57 +0000 UTC]
I must then ask, are you aware that points are bought with real money?
Yes you can gain points from give-aways and such etc.
But when it comes down to it, points are essentially the currency (money) of DA. And they exist because people buy them.
It's apparent to me that you see the use of money as a "waste" so why would you use points which are valid in only one place (DA) as opposed to money which is universal.
My point is, you say "It would be free or for points." but you get points by spending money, isn't that a waste? You'd be paying universal money for a lesser amount of points, valid in only one place?
And if the item was free, then what happens to the artist?
If you gave away everything for free or for points, you'd have pretty much nothing.
The concept of money is that its an exchange for work you've done.
In an ideal world, yes, everything would be free and we'd all live happily ever after. But in reality, even if money did not exist, there will always be something that humans use to exchange favors and the likes (so essentially, there's be a form of currency, it just wouldn't be like the one we have)
Anyway, I think I'm kind of just laying out points you get, but aren't interested in hearing, so I'll just stop responding now. My intention really wasn't to have a debate or accuse, but to explain to you why some people find adopts worthwhile and also to try and subtly suggest that perhaps your comment may be slightly offensive to the artist and the buyer.
You don't have to love everything posted. But people don't have to post everything you love.
Have an awesome day (:

Just wanted to say, but...
People have a right to buy something. It's THEIR money, so why not buy something THEY might enjoy?
I mean, I understand your point, but what about classic paintings? People spend thousands or millions on painting/drawings like that, right?

Um.. Are you not paying attention? I said the classics are the only paintings that are worth the money. But roleplay characters? Ridiculous. Am I not entitled to my opinion? Geez. I state something and I have the world against me but hey, whatever. It's benefiting me in a way.

It's for their use, afterall. So what if someone bought something for 85 bucks? People waste money on designer handbags.

what makes them any less entitled to an opinion than you? Just because they say something contrary to you doesn't mean they're wrong. if you have the right to post your opinion (on a public forum with a "reply" option) than why aren't they?
Just because you hold an opinion doesn't make it so, nor does it make it the prevailing opinion. Considering the amount of support this piece has you're probably the one that is being ridiculous here.
you probably wouldn't have had "the world against" you if you had tried to have a little tact when expressing your opinion. You're entitled to it, but not so much entitled to being an ass. You have to expect people to reply in turn

Because that's the buyout.
And people have the money to buy it.
No one is forcing anyone to buy them out.
And in a way it's fair because you get a new design PLUS the drawing that comes with it.

Hey, you got something out of it.
Just calm down. People want to spend their money on the design.
If you can't afford it. Oh well, I don't think a small box of nuggets is worth $8 but it still is.
Plus you're buying the character AND the art.
If she wanted, she wouldn't even allow you to use the artwork of the character because it's HERS.
If you wanna make comments like
I can kind of understand point buys but.. Who the fuck would honestly pay $85, or more so $100 for a drawing/character? That's just ridiculous! What a real waste of money.
Put them somewhere where someone cares. I don't mean to be a bitch but NO ONE CARES.
It's not a waste of money in most people's opinions.
But yeah
You get the character design
The artwork
and the copyright to own the character.
For all your know, whoever buys the character can probably someday end up making it up so high they'll probably put that character into a show or something if ever. No one knows. So please. Just keep the rude ass comments off of people's deviantions and if you think it's 'too expensive' and a 'waste of money'. Just keep it to yourself. No one needs to hear that.
Go on FA a simple design there once got bought for $1000.00
So yeah.

I mean, it's not just for the character, it's also support for the artist.
I mean, it's sort of like a commission, but you can own all copyrights to the character afterward, so it should, in some respects, be more pricey
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
MotleyCrueAndMCRFan In reply to sharpiekan [2013-03-19 22:53:27 +0000 UTC]
More pricey? Ha. What on earth is this character going to do for you? It's meaningless. All it does is give you a roleplay or whatever. It's not like you'll create your own game/movie with it one day.
And I understand supporting artists.. If their work is worth supporting. Actual drawings that mean something are worth the money. But character adopts? No. What a waste. Give that money to someone who needs it or to a charity. -_- That's what's wrong with this world.
👍: 0 ⏩: 5
sharpiekan In reply to MotleyCrueAndMCRFan [2013-03-20 03:50:28 +0000 UTC]
Well maybe these adoptables actually do something for the people who buy them. Maybe some people cannot create characters and they need a bit of help, so who cares if they're paying for it. If it doesn't bother them, then it shouldn't bother you, it's their choice. I really don't know how to justify other people's actions, but I feel like I should give them the benefit of the doubt, at least?
I've never really seen the point in buying adoptables myself, but I also don't see the point in buying CDs or even buying art pieces, but I'm not going to go out of my way to tell other people that it's stupid.
I agree that this money would be better spent given to charity, but we can't all be as altruistic as you, I suppose.
