You bought specific pieces for this. Does that mean you planned all this, you designed it all before you put it together?

In a sense, yes. I know what pieces I want to use and where. The tricky part is connecting it. On the other hand, I have most of these pieces in other colors, so I built it with those and bought correctly colored pieces to replace them.

out of curiosity, i havent done anything in bricklink yet but do you actually have to buy every single little piece you order? and does there ever run out of pieces there?

Bricklink is like ebay. Many people have their own stores and sell their own collection of individual pieces or sets. Some pieces are more rare than others so they'll be extremely limited in quantity, but otherwise the only limit is how much you want to spend. If you know what pieces you want, buying them individually is really worth it.
