This could be interpreted as the promotion of illegal substances..

Why mushrooms are always associated with this? a rhetorical question

Haha, I live in The Netherlands. You can buy them in a store over here. When you say "mushroom" here in NL, the first thing people think of are hallucinogens, then gnomes and fairy tales, and only then perhaps the forest. Besides you do present them in a fairly psychoactive setting

I know that "Magic Mushrooms" are legal in the Netherlands, it's not a surprise for me. You have correctly described associations with mushrooms in the minds of many people, it's really a very typical opinion. But anyway, I think mushrooms are more mysterious than many people can imagine it. It's a strange thing, a plant and an animal at the same time.Β

I have never bought magic mushrooms in a "head shop" myself btw. It's not my scene, or perhaps I should say, not my my scene any more.
Yes, those fungi, they do defy that innate human obsession to categorize things, don't they? I once heard that it can be mathematically proven that for every possible ordering of any type of natural objects and phenomena, there will always be a misc category for stuff that doesn't fit anywhere. Don't ask me about the details though, I'm not a mathematician. I do like the idea though. It seems to confirm my belief that no matter how our brains order things in our perception, it says more about ourselves than about what's actually "out there"

In our world, many things that exist beyond the understanding of our mind, just mushrooms is one of the examples that goes out of any categories. But personally, I accept all these things without problems, they are more understandable to me than those who belong to certain categories. Maybe just because I'm not trying to find an explanation for this. I take it as it is.

Oh yeah! These minimalistic images are great! I love the lizard, it's a cool work but the real masterpiece is pic#2 "Bowl with bird in flight". Β This is a unique shape
Thanks for sharing!

They are indeed extremely abstract, in particular the second one. I'm very curious to know how images like these came into being. I once ventured into the world of music history. One thing that struck me is how conservative these old artists were. Mozart was famous for breaking the rules, but he still operated within clearly defined formats. It took an undisputed genius like Beethoven to finally, after centuries, do away with the 3-movement scheme. None before him had even dared to think of doing so. And as with religious leaders who have the courage to break out of the old canons, after they die their ideas become the new canons. Because most people are followers who lack the courage to do things differently than anybody else already does.
But what struck me even more was that I had always imagined that these really simple old folk melodies had somehow "emerged": imagine a bunch of village women doing their laundry by the river, humming along, then someone comes up with some nice tune and the others start humming after her, one comes up with a few good words to the tune, another add a second line, and a folk song is born! But it didn't go this way at all. Every popular folk song we know (and as far as we can trace it back to its origins, but in many cases this is indeed possible) of is the product of a gifted person sitting down, thinking really hard, trying out stuff, rejecting most of it until finally a new song is born. It's very hard work and more importantly, the work of an individual.
I think that with folk art it's the same thing. It's tempting to think of it as something that has simply "emerged", but I doubt that is the case. I'm pretty sure all of the ancient and folk art is very much the product of individuals, who within their community had the authority to "sell" their art as "the new thing". After all, even in the oldest of art forms we see an evolution, or perhaps a series of revolutions, brought about by individuals who wanted too see things change.
Fascinating, isn't it?
