Description This is a work in Progress model of an Intervention Sniper rifle.

I would appreciate if anyone had any good tips on improving the shader for the gun metal. This render is just a quick one and doesnt look particulary impressive.

The best way to make some great shaders is to make great shaders. Sounds redundent right? You have to dig around renderosity... Really, the best way to do it is to start a thread asking for help in creating your shader. Post lots of screen shots of your progress and ask for help. BagginsBill (BB) will probably show up in your thread eventually and give you some help. But, the best thing to do is dig around the threads there first, and don't be afraid to play with the shader nodes.

You could also find a nice metal freebie and replace values, tweek them, replace textures with your own textures...etc, to create what you're looking for. I've made a few metal shaders I'm kinda happy with. They (the ones I made) are pretty easy. Let me know if you want me to break them down for you! Like this one for example [link] (WARNING NUDITY)

Thanks for your help. I did think of making a thread on Renderosity. I supose I should go take a look if there is one already.
Your material looks cool.. it might work well on the gun with less spec. If you dont mind I could try and replicate that.

This looks great!

I have found gravel textured bump maps and a semi high gloss shine work wonders for giving weapons a better look.
