Description
I made this tutorial for people who are beginning to use photoshop, if you're a know-all ps savvy then this is not for you.I made this in Photoshop 7, I have checked and the process seems to be the same up to Photoshop CS4.
It appears it also works for GIMP (thanks to Excalibur-T005 for pointing that out), although the options seem to be a tad different, I'll check into that and possibly edit the tutorial later.
*****Please note that Photoshop Elements doesn't have a Color Balance box, so there are 2 things you can do:
- Adjust Hue/Saturation (Enhance > Adjust Color > Adjust Hue/Saturation)
- Color Variations (Enhance > Adjust Color > Color Variations)
I'm not sure Color Variations will be of any help but give it a try if you don't like the result from Hue/Saturation.
If you like this please

I'm glad it worked for you, it's a really cheap way to make a sun, but it's alright when you don't want to deal with it.

Don't worry about it, I checked the comic page you mention and it looks like you might have gone a little overboard, but it's easy to fix, just make the flare smaller

there are 2 things you could try, one would be the hue/saturation box (Enhance > Adjust Color > Adjust Hue/Saturation), the second one would be the color variations box (Enhance > Adjust Color > Color Variations), though i'm not really sure the second one would be of any use so try with hue/saturation first

Absolutely brilliant. You may, by the way, want to note that this also works perfectly for GIMP.

It does? I had GIMP once but I never used it, might as well give it a try so I can see how the effect looks like in it

Yeah, this tutorial meshes quite well with GIMP. Some of the things are a little different (for example, the Lens Flare is not under 'Filter->Render', but instead is under 'Filters->Light Effects(I think)', but the overall workings of it are the same, and the effect is rather pleasant.

It should, what version of Photoshop are you using? I know it works in both 7 and CS2, in any case try looking for this "color balance", it should come up by going Image > Adjustments > Color Balance, that works up to CS4 as far as I know.

Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 (long name, haha)

Retrohelix In reply to Sandstar123 [2009-09-03 01:08:56 +0000 UTC]
Photoshop Elements is a stripped down version of Photoshop, so you might not find many of the settings and filters, I did a quick google search and found nothing but questions without answers, however you could end up with a similar effect by using Hue/Saturation instead of Color Balance, do Enhance > Adjust Color > Adjust Hue/Saturation and adjust the colors of that layer, I've never used that version so I can't really tell you any more than that, you might have to play around with those settings until you end up with a yellow flare instead of red/white.
