Description
I made this tutorial for people who are beginning to use photoshop, if you're a know-all ps savvy then this is not for you.I made this in Photoshop 7, I have checked and the process seems to be the same up to Photoshop CS4.
It appears it also works for GIMP (thanks to Excalibur-T005 for pointing that out), although the options seem to be a tad different, I'll check into that and possibly edit the tutorial later.
*****Please note that Photoshop Elements doesn't have a Color Balance box, so there are 2 things you can do:
- Adjust Hue/Saturation (Enhance > Adjust Color > Adjust Hue/Saturation)
- Color Variations (Enhance > Adjust Color > Color Variations)
I'm not sure Color Variations will be of any help but give it a try if you don't like the result from Hue/Saturation.
If you like this please

I needed an "easy tutorial for beginners". Not that I'm a beginner, but I don't pick things up as easy as this! This was very helpful! ^_^

Bread-Crumbz In reply to Retrohelix [2008-06-08 03:28:01 +0000 UTC]
thanks for showing me this its helpful, but i have a question ,if you have like an actually picture like with alot of layers, should you do THIS first then draw the picture or do it last and would you put this on top of the other layers? I'm assuming you would but im not sure thanks

Retrohelix In reply to Bread-Crumbz [2008-06-08 06:18:41 +0000 UTC]
it depends on whether you want the entire picture to have the light from this efect, otherwise just put it in between layers, probably just trying to match the sky

Does this work for multi-colored suns, too, or just yellow/white ones?
👍: 0 ⏩: 2
Retrohelix In reply to kioasakka [2007-06-25 01:41:14 +0000 UTC]
yeah, you just have to choose a color with the sliders, as for multicolor suns you can just duplicate the original layer several times, change the color of each one, then erase a piece of each layer with a soft brush , thanks for liking this

kioasakka In reply to Retrohelix [2007-06-25 07:36:33 +0000 UTC]
So like, how would I make a sun that was, say, purple, but let off the white glow like a white sun? (light, not glow xDDD)
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Retrohelix In reply to kioasakka [2007-06-25 13:52:50 +0000 UTC]
umm, for that it would be easier to just create a new layer over the one with your white light and, using a soft brush, color the original circle of your sun, it will kinda look like an eclipse though o.O, another way would be to duplicate the original light layer, then using this technique just replace the colors to the ones you want, in this case purple and white, reorder the layers so the purple one stays on top, and then using soft brush color with black whatever you dont want from the purple layer, if you instead use the eraser tool you'll have a problem because "screen" will need the black background to make it invisible, if you erase the black you'll have white strikes or something like that.
