Description Steven Universe Stuff, btw.

So Peridot pulled up this map of the Earth showing "All Gem structures originally built on Earth" and there's no spellcheck in Photoshop so ignore that, but my first thought was "What the hell happened to Russia?" So I made an overlay with an actual map of Earth and found these problem areas. Red is land clearly missing, Green is land clearly extra.

Discuss.

Updated 1/11:
- Added the fact that Florida is an island
- Added the fact that Japan isn't an island
- Added the fact that North and South America are not linked
- Seriously with this much extra ocean why have none of the shorelines seemed to move outwards?

Hey, I said one upload a week, even if it's scraps. This is scraps. It counts.

Wow, Earth looks really screwed up in Stevens world, I love it.

As to what happened with Russia: Ever heard of the Tunguska Event?
My headcanon is that, in the Steven Universe Earth, it went... Badly.

What about Iceland

That's not a bad theory. If I recall correctly the prevailing theory for Tunguska was an air-burst meteor and early Gem ships looked a lot like meteors (rock makes good shielding, actually, just heavy). If the Tunguska meteor was a gem ship, even a 'dead' one, the reactor going could royally mess 'em up.

Russia, Australia, Greenland, India, most of north-west Africa... Looks like those South American countries were the only ones on the good end of this

The Hawaiian Islands also appear to be missing.

I can almost excuse that one, since they seem to be using dots to represent land that are larder than any one or perhaps all together of those little volcano mounds.
Plus they forgot Iceland, and I know it's bigger.

I'm not sure they'll ever directly address what happened to most of the map, but it would be interesting to go through and re-watch the whole show trying to what those dots are and if they ever visit the damaged zones.

I think that the wars and gem interference changed the surface of the Earth.

Its pretty easy to say that with the craterous hole in Russia, but how about all the other smaller damages? What of the big portion of Africa that seems to have up and moved to South America? That's a whole different kind of warfare if it was, and would make an awesome episode if they were to cover it.

Considering how the gems are able to terraform planets to an extreme, I also think that they had already started terraforming before the war. And that would be a VERY cool episode.

Florida is an island, and Japan is connected to China.
It's intriguing, to say the least. Β I wonder if the Crystal Gems will take a trip to that red blip in not-Russia. Β Perhaps that will explain something.

I'm gonna have to add those to the map - good eyes.

Really, the only blip on this map that we can ID is the one near New Mexico, because Peridot called it the 'Beta Kindergarten', and said it wasn't as impressive as Amethyst's kindergarten. We've been to a lot of places, but there was never really any info on where was where.

The boring answer, it is probably just the way the Steven Universe Earth is. There are some clear differences between the actual Earth and the one in SU and it is entirely possible that there is no real reason why beyond that being the way it is. It would be interesting if the gems or something had something to do with it but, at the moment, I don't see much reason to believe that.

I forget how many thousands of years ago they said the map was made, but its possible that between some minor tectonic activity over that time and the other small differences caused this large a change.

They never give us much reason to believe anything before it smacks us in the face. That's why its so fun to speculate
