Fresh off the boat, and Mighty was already lost. Honestly that probably wasn’t very surprising since he’d only spent a couple of months in Starlight after Robotnik’s defeat. Not enough time to commit the city’s layout to memory, and the memories he did have of it were over three years old now. Oh, and also the last time he’d been there, there had been a lot more lights and street signs, and a lot less rubble.

Mighty frowned, stopped in the shelter of a nearby doorway, and squinted at his map. The wind was trying to tear the paper from his hands, and he probably should have just let it. The thing was almost worthless anyway, since it had been drawn during the rebuild. The cheerful colours were sort of depressing now, as were the various slogans written around the edges in bubble text. ‘It’s time to reclaim our city!’ once said, while another read ‘Starlight City – a New Beginning.’ It was even more depressing to think about how quickly that new beginning had turned into a new nightmare.

There was no sense in getting himself all upset though. Instead, he focused on the crudely drawn line that marked ‘The District’. This was some sort of Horde free area, as far as he understood, though he wasn’t really sure what the ins and outs of it were. The captain of the ship that had ferried him from the East had down his best to explain, but well… the man had had a very bushy moustache, and honestly Mighty hadn’t been able to make out a lot of his words. He hadn’t liked to say that though, after all the man had been trying to be helpful, and it wasn’t really polite to say ‘I’m sorry, but could you please shave your lip?’

Anyway, it seemed that the Chaotix house was within the safe zone, which meant there was a chance he’d find his friends there. That was assuming anyone was still there after three years. But even if they weren’t, maybe he could still find something that would give him a clue of how to track them down. And that was assuming they’d survived for this long. Mighty clamped down on that thought before it was allowed to take root. Better to assume the best before he had reason to believe the worst.

Three years.

He’d never meant to be away this long.
