Description

In collaboration with Adrasil

Current Version: 2009.01 (only update is is the change to the banner)

As Delta Dynamics (DD) builds the series of ship classes based upon the Hobbyist's Guide to the UFP Starfleet (by Timo Saloniemi), we will add new nacelles to this image.

Presently, this file (a living document) depicts the nacelles as they are first introduced on the vessels we cover. However, this does not suggest the nacelles were not used on earlier classes of ships, but rather those classes have not yet been covered by us. Also, where possible, the nacelles will have the same nomenclature utilized elsewhere in fandom and beta canon; when conflicts occur, we will defer to the best option for the DD-canon.

Big news coming, with a few more nacelles released before that. Thanks for sticking with us.

Man, this chart is getting crowded. We've come a long way in the 14 months since you first posted it!

Agree...think we'll be introducing the third column soon.

So....you're printing this out as a poster and pinning it above the bed, too? Right?

Actually I'm using it as a "nacelle choice & design" dartboard.

That would explain all the use of whitespace in your art.

That's a good question, and I'm going to have to come up with a way to be more informative with this chart.

The direct answer to your question is it was for the Indomitable experimental battle cruiser, back in 2210. Read up on it there, to find out why they are so large.

Thanks for the question!

I can definitely understand that perspective. I attribute it--without going back to the research from Timo--as being associated with low-speed vessels, such as the Oberth and Garneau classes, which were not seen in any TOS episodes. It may originate even earlier; this is just the date I have for the Fjon light supply variant.

Hello:

Β That is quite the variety of nacelles, also nice to see the Oberth class' nacelles there too and those 2 tiny cute ones at the left-top corner . But what calls my attention the most is that you have 3 types of JJ-verse-era nacelles!

3 types today. Come back tomorrow.

I kid, but I will be updating the sheet in 4 days with the release of the PB-31 (a TOS-style nacelle) on the Siva. On this sheet version, there are two variants of the PB-21, and I /think/ today's -29 is the last of the JJ ones we'll be seeing. But, maybe not!

Hello:

Β Yup, I see you've updated it .

Β I see some very fat nacelles there too, are those warp-capable cargo containers?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RevancheRM In reply to Chiletrek [2019-09-03 01:03:16 +0000 UTC]

I think you're referring to the PB-19s. Check out the Horizon class Heavy Cruiser (2193) and its sub-classes. Those are definitely not for cargo.

Chiletrek In reply to RevancheRM [2019-09-03 01:07:04 +0000 UTC]

, hehehehe, those engines look quite big indeed, specially if compared to the other nacelles in the chart, so I thought of the cargo modules the Ptolemy class is known to carry .

RevancheRM In reply to Chiletrek [2019-09-04 15:43:20 +0000 UTC]

I think tomorrow, we're releasing a peek at a new type of "cargo" module that Adrasil and I developed, with a detailed release a few days after that.

Hello:

Β That is an interesting collection of nacelles because one could think most are just the same (except the ones used in the Oberth class).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RevancheRM In reply to Chiletrek [2019-03-30 22:24:30 +0000 UTC]

I agree. It's easier, though, to fill in the pre-TOS stuff. From my perspective. Adrasil may disagree! Β

Chiletrek In reply to RevancheRM [2019-03-30 22:33:10 +0000 UTC]

You are not the first one trying to fill the void of the pre-TOS era, and Adrasil may not be the only one to disagree .

Don't mean to sound ungrateful, but you should mention Captshade as the original artist that I built my work on.

You’re right. I’ll do that in the description. Please let me know if you develop any other artists as we go along, so that I may add them as well.

KaiserShipyards [2018-09-16 00:42:38 +0000 UTC]

Ahh that's what the Oberth ones are called

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RevancheRM In reply to KaiserShipyards [2018-09-16 12:50:57 +0000 UTC]

'Tis true. Additional fun fact: the nacelles first appeared on the Oberths as the WD-3A, and as the engines were refined, the suffix letter was changed accordingly. As the only ship we've done so far with the WD-3 series is the Fjon (a subclass of the podless Garneau light surveyors), these are technically representing the WD-3F. However, the external features of the nacelles apparently did not change, so I left the suffix off.

Hello:

Β Until canon information appears, there is always the chance of conflicts, so I like your idea that you will keep-up with the guide you have, so you'll always have in your ships a sense of continuity .
