Description
Some crap for reference. Um...enjoy? I guess.EDIT: Thanks for all the kind comments and the favorites. I never expected this to get so much attention but I'm extremely grateful for it. Hopefully I'll have more time to do some quick, captionless reference pages like this soon. Feel free to comment and suggest some anatomy how-tos~

Wow. I have never been able to draw a paw in that first position, but after seeing this I suddenly start getting it. Thank you SO much.

Such an amazing paw! I couldn't ever do it that way, though. My mind would be too screwed up to try and make a strict line loose (Like what you did in the second step.)

one of the best paw tutorials i've seen on deviantart, as a dog show handler/breeder i always pick apart tutorials. can't help it.
one thing that i haven't seen any tutorials/references mention, which is an important fact, is that the metatarsal bones on both front and back legs carry up through to the pastern - or in the case of the hind leg, up to the hock. i see a lot of people making the mistake of disregarding the pastern entirely or thinking those long, skinny toe bones end at the foot. nope!
i also like how you've drawn the individual toes! toe placement varies from breed to breed and one species to the next as far as canines go, but they should never be aligned in a straight line

Thank you (: It must be fantastic to be a dog show handler. I've often thought about that type of career. Dogs are such a treat.
I know this isn't perfect but I'm glad you find it pretty accurate. It means a lot coming from someone who observes canines a lot.
Also I agree, there do seem to be more "simplified" tutorials out there that miss some of the proper bone structure.

you're very welcome!
it's very rewarding, if you are the type of person who enjoys their weekends without any traveling it might not be the right hobby/career choice, often dog show weekends are more strenuous than the weekdays themselves
