Description
A sketch dump! And it's Werner Werman! Because I haven't been over-saturating my account with EITHER of those things lately!Β Β In all seriousness though, I WILL be getting back to drawing... ANYTHING else, I promise. I've just been so focused on trying to get this dude right. I don't know why this is even a big deal, I mean, I don't even try to keep Crash Bandicoot characters on-model. But with this guy... I just want him to look cute, goddammit! His original design is adorable (to me), so I guess I just want to emulate that as best I can. (I'm NOT trying to say these are totally on-model, they're absolutely not. They're just considerably better than my previous attempts... God, some of the first ones were abysmal.)For anyone who loves Werner Werman and/or reading incredibly ridiculous things, here's a needlessly complicated headcanon I was struck with earlier today. (I'm recording this here because I gotta put it SOMEWHERE... Get ready, this is gonna be a ride.) So, I think it's fairly evident to most fans that Werner doesn't have a tail. I know some artists draw him with one - and there's nothing wrong with taking some creative liberties - but if you look at his in-game model, it's pretty clear that he doesn't have one. Since we all assume that Werner is a WW1 veteran, one concept I see other fans use quite a lot is that he's an amputee. I actually really like this idea, but when I started thinking about it, I wondered: what are the consequences of a rat losing its tail? So I did some research and apparently (stay with me here), one of the major functions of a rat's tail is heat regulation. Because the tail is the only body part that isn't covered in fur, it's the least effective at trapping heat, so through a process I am totally unqualified to explain, their bodies can essentially send more blood to the tail as a means to cool down. Naturally, rats without tails have a more difficult time cooling off. And literally ALL of this is just to conclude: the in-universe explanation for why Werner never wears a shirt is that he's just fucking overheated. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
The art is made in Autodesk Sketchbook. The meaningless rant is just the result of social distancing slowly driving me insane.
