Description [EDIT 8-13-08] koi pond has her new pics up! she is also now for sale in my etsy shop, please consider giving her a nice home! [link]

koi pond. i've been working on her a while now. i finally got done braiding her hair she has many glass beads braided into her mane and tail. i tried very hard to have a flowing design in the paint and the hair. i hope everyone likes her.

she is for sale. if she is not bought by july 4th she will go onto ebay. i am hoping for $65-$75 for her. she has been a labor of love, but also a lot of paint, time, energy and precious glass beads.

her base is a fair weather, her mane and tail are real pony hair taken from the tails of the four easter toola roola's used in my avatar series of ponies, as well as her own tail. so 5 tails on one pony ^_^ she has an all over messy watery paint job and 9 koi painted on her body. a white and black pair in a yin yang type pattern on her non display side, as well as two pink as the heart marking where her magnet is. she has one on each cheek and a pretty orange one on the front of her face. another oragne one is on her front display leg and one big pink on her display side hip.

i haven't counted her braids but i have several in her mane, two from the top wrap around her head as crown of sorts, and several simply beaded. one large fish shaped bead is in her mane as well (i think the camera shows it as a blue elongated blob.) then the loose peices of her mane are wrapped and bound, kinda messily, but i think it works for a pond ^_^

on her tail again several beads and braids, one braid wraps the base of her tail. i left teh unbraided peices loose with a nice curl/wave in it.

please comment, let me know what you like and what you don't like. i will not do any touch ups on her, but i appreciate knowing what i can do better in the future.

koi pond is (c) me, christi m morgan
mlp, fair weather, and toola roola are (c) hasbro

really? cause she sold for my asking price.... and i've gotten ppl requesting similar ones. but you, a complete stranger must be right! i'll never be able to show my face in the pony world again! my art sucks! cause this one lil person who i've never met says my one lil pony is so ugly. i guess it's time for me to give up. i'll never make another pony again. oh the shame. i'll take everything down from my da account tonight. screw the fact that i've sold a set of ponies for more than $300 and i have ppl banging down my door for commissions. screw it all. oh how awful. i'm going to go sulk now and talk to my bestie to see if she can convince me to not change my online identity just because of your one stupid rude elementary comment. kthnxbye

lindasowa,

Not only is this comment rude it also stereotypes Americans. Now I understand that RevRuby was a bit harsh in her sarcasm but that was not the way to respond to it. If you take the time to look at it and appreciate it you will see she put lots of effort into making this and it is unique and beautiful in it's own way. If you can't see that then fine, too bad, but that does NOT mean you go and say it is ugly. There is a line between constructive criticism and being just plain rude and offensive; you were offensive, not constructive. Look, i'm not trying to start a fight or say that you are wrong because you are entitled to your opinion, but this does not give you the right to go around saying it is bad or ugly or anything else like that. Last of all I just want to say that it is not ugly just because YOU don't particularly like it. That's all and I know it's longer but it needed to be said.

RevRuby,

Good job with the design! Keep up the good work! Also I love the name!

it would look a bit nicer if there wasn't so much paint i mean i kno its water but some times less is more it just looks like some one painted her in like 5 minutes ( no offense) its too busy i mean a little bit of water and the fish would have been cuter

I disagree, yes the paint is chaotic looking, but it certainly looks like she put a lot of time into it. If you glance quickly it may look like a mess... but actually taking it in, the paint job looks truly calculated and planned. Every swirl of color was done with a purpose, and what a piece of art she is!
I especially love her non-display side back leg. It's a beautiful marble of swirls!

Excellent!

She's very sweet! Her colours are great and I like the way you did her hair! It looks perfect on her, especially the little strands that are not bound.

Nicely done pony, but I'm afraid that I couldn't give her a good home, my little sister would probably mess up her mane and my little brother would ruin everything else!

Have you sold this pony yet? I bet it's way prettier in person since the photos blur the detail

RevRuby In reply to severedanomaly [2008-08-04 22:01:39 +0000 UTC]

i have not. i am considering putting her on etsy for like $30. it's a shame cause i put hours of work and thought and planning into her. but i need cash. i plan to use my cardbaord light box to get better pics for the sale. she is very textured as she has soooo many layers of paint and then full gloss varnish for a watery look. she seems to enjoy being a pond with all those playful koi ^_^

Her hair looks messy, but her paint job is superb! I love her eyes, so pretty. What kind of paint do you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RevRuby In reply to moonstruckdragonlass [2008-07-02 10:44:30 +0000 UTC]

acrylics. and sometimes paint for gaming miniatures. really just about anything that dries in a relatively fast time period.

I never thought to use gaming miniature paint. . . But it IS a brilliant idea! I'll have to try it T/y

for certain colors they come with their own sort of gloss. i am considering for a pair of planned ponies some of the shadow washes from reaper.

she's not a fussy sort so the braiding and the pictures were quite a bother to her. she'd rather just relax and ripple with the breeze.
