The Fishing Hamlet from Bloodborne is a literal homage to the novel, "The Shadow over Innsmouth" by H.P. Lovecraft.

"The small seaport town of Innsmouth is known very much for being nearly deserted, and just getting by with its abundant fishing grounds...Its rumored history of abnormalities keeps the neighboring towns tight-lipped, making it fairly obscure...The fishermen there have narrow heads with flat noses, and rough and scabby skin. All of this is possibly due to a degenerative disease that perhaps plagued the town...The villagers are unspoken and not keen to foreigners."
