There's something about the coloring of this I'm not happy with, I don't think it's as good as the Sammhain picture of Owen and I'm not sure what I did differently. I am happy with the window light/shadow and the overall composition. In retrospect it's very much like one of those classical paintings where everyone's caught in an interplay that you can read into... only, y'know, nowhere near as good artistically because a classical master painter I am not.The episode 'Ransom' paused for reference on the cradle, room layout, and window details. OMG that kid's nursery is a big spartan depressing room.
I always thought the interaction between Alex and Owen/Puck was fascinating, because they're so close that you have to wonder what Fox thinks of it. I've seen fanfic pointing out that Fox is not exactly prime mother material, and the potential for jealousy seems strong.

yeah, I don't really know about Fox's mothering skills. I mean, she discovered her powers by protecting alex, but what if she's got him in one of those baby carriers while she blows up her dad's company???

I think you did a wonderful job. The lighting all seems very well done and it does remind me of more classical paintings with characters caught in normal day to day life, and yet it still remains fascinating to look at.
When I saw the shadow though, I first thought that it would be cool if it looked like Puck's, kinda like that famous picture from Phantom Menace .

Thanks! I was going for the classical painting look, but I'm thinking it might have worked better in another medium. Your idea with the shadow is awesome though, may use that in some future art...

Aw. I love it too. Hard to explain in words how that family unit works, but I think they're all wonderful. In a story I did with my friend, we actually had Alex growing up with a posessive hold on Owen and Puck xD he didn't like to share them with anyone else, except Fox and David. And even then, only sparingly. (He had the same posessive streak with Lexington too though. Damn that kid is spoiled ^^)

Nah, most of the stuff I write with my best friend is never posted. XD We're a bit twisted, so we tend to keep stuff to ourselves. But I'm writing a lot more solo these days, so if I ever end up doing a story like this, I'll definitely let you know ^^

I think what it comes down to is I don't know how to color somebody that's standing in that kind of intense light. If I ever figure that one out I might redo this picture entirely.

Really touching photo, I love the idea of stuffy, prim and proper Owen taking care of a baby. Too bad we didn't get to see too much of it in the series!

What's the story behind this then? I'm guessing the title's something to do with him not usually being so loving..

No, actually he takes very good care of the baby, and his alter ego is the baby's chief protector. But it's not his baby, it's hers, and her husband/the baby's father is his employer. The mother behind the curtain, Fox (that's a foxhead tattoo over her right eye) was kind of a bounty hunter/fighter/weapons specialist until she got married and had a baby. She's not exactly the usual mother material. It makes sense she'd have some jealousy that her husband's business assistant is closer to and a better caretaker of her kid.

The shadows are awesome and coloring really fleshes this out from the sketch.
But (nothing to do with the picute) a smiling Owen is a little frightning...
