Description MGC entry for October 2008
I'm sure he'd try not to let on, but exile has to be hard on Puck. I'm willing to bet he'd tell Alex all about Avalon though, as much out of nostalgia as to prepare him for whatever lays ahead. With Queen Titania for a grandmother it's a safe bet he'll at least end up visiting there someday and Puck would want him prepared.
I deliberately made Puck a little tired here, trying to get across how mortality weighs on him. Those are indeed the weird sisters in the background, dancing and chasing the mythical white stag. More innocent times i guess, from Puck's youth.
Digital paint in Photoshop 5.5 with a cheaty city background.

This is beautiful. I think I most love shifting-from his young face to old, from stone hall to city to forest. And Sisters! It must be like this when Fate,Grace and Vegneance for first time decided they needed avatars...

I love the background story behind this. Also, I love how Alex is clenching on Puck's shirt. I think that it is his way to comfort the exiled Puck.

They definitely have a bond, I sometimes wondered in Puck made a better father-figure for Alex than Xanatos did...

Considering how Xanatos might be busy with his company or the gargoyles, I wouldn't be surprised if Puck is like a second father to Alex, especially the mischievous kind!

"And these are the Weird Sisters. I doubt you'll like them when you meet them, but they're quite the lookers, aren't they?"

Oberon has to let Puck back in eventually. At least, I really hope so. I mean, it's not like he doesn't change his own laws all the time, eh?

LOL! Yeah, that sounds about like what he'd say.

I figure either there'll be some other bargain later that undoes it, or Puck will find a loophole, or something...

He has to. Otherwise it's just...too depressing. Nothing about Puck should be that depressing!

Poor Puck. I felt sorry for him. But maybe Oberon will relent eventually. I can see Alex asking his grandmother to make such a request.

Or possibly he'll find some kind of loophole. I think Puck has the patience to wait it out and find a way around it.

Ah yes this is true. I suppose one must have patience is you're going to live forever.

Kinda funny, I was about to comment on how Puck seemed a little tired/oldish in the pic, but Iguess it makes sense when ya look at it from the angle of 'forever banished' and all that. It's like he's mostly hiding his sadface, but the baby won't tell anyone, so he can let it show. Poor Puck :/ He's always been one of my favorites.

Thank you! Yes, the expression was deliberate. Alex is looking at the illusion of memories, and not at him, after all. I figured he's remembering better times, and all that he's lost.

wow i really like this work. there is so much sentiment here, and you feel so connected and close. great job.

Puck really does deserve way more then he gets. he is a super powerful being yet always put down by laws and servitude. he usually disguises his oppression with a big smile and a chance to play.. but he does carry a frown specially when all the effort he does only gets him tired. and in this piece you can read it well. so once again, great job. ^_^

Thank you! I just really like the idea that maybe Owen, with his dour front and his flashes of snarky wit, is more Puck than the cheerful jester everyone thinks of as his real face. When he's Owen the pressure to be all smiles is off. That's probably part of why I have more Owen art than Puck. I used to think of them like two separate entities and the more I think about it now the more I see him as all one.

Oh i really agree on a lot of that. I also wondered why Puck would agree to continue being trapped in a body such as Owens, incarcerating him more then he already is. but then i later realized that he did like "playing that role". and i wondered why. then later i though. This is more of a relive to him, for he is not expected to "entertain" or accept being made fun of.

Yet at the same time he does like to be his trickster self, for the best way he feels some release from his troubles, is by just laughing back at the world.

Reymonkey In reply to iamdemona [2009-03-23 12:52:02 +0000 UTC]

But what a body to be stuck in. Rowr. I mean. Ahem. The stone hand's gotta be a bummer, but apart from that... Obviously he enjoys the role serving Xanatos too, or he never would have started that. Playing a part in all his wierd manipulative games.

I'm sure it's good to cut loose and be himself with the magic sometimes, too.

oh you got that right grrrr sexy, and i love it when you get to see little glimpses of his smile as Owen hehe. super cute.

and mmm something tells me, that he does a little more then play a part in those games. Xanatos may be smart but when it comes to tricks and games, we know who is the best behind that hehe.

Reymonkey In reply to iamdemona [2009-04-14 01:29:55 +0000 UTC]

Well we do know for a canon fact that Owen introduced Demona and Xanatos, so the entire series is basically his fault... The gargoyles indirectly owe their resurrection to him.

iamdemona In reply to Reymonkey [2009-04-19 07:01:44 +0000 UTC]

hehe you have brought up a great point and i strongly agree. Another way how puck manages to keep amused and giving Demona a hard time. an example is how he may seem to be of aid, yet also manages to screw her over by brining involvement of others haha.

It was definitely intended to have a melancholy feel, thanks! Letting myself draw him in my own style instead of mimicing the cartoon style let me do more with his expression.

I too jope Puck will return home someday in the SLG comics, it would be very depressing if he didn't and dies as a mortal

Reymonkey In reply to Chulala [2008-11-03 16:10:50 +0000 UTC]

The future of the comics is uncertain as I understand it, but according to Greg Weisman and the Gargwiki, he's not aging as Owen. Every time he goes back to Owen from Puck, he resets his age, so he's permanantly... I dunno, thirty something? But way way in the future Alex will be aliennapped as an adult, and that leaves him stuck as Owen and completely mortal.
I'm hoping someone else picks up the comics, and if they continue I'm sure Puck would show again.

Well, he's still immortal, he's just banished forever from ever returning to Avalon. It is sad, though...poor Puck; there's always a heavy price to pay when you stand up against someone of power...

Quiet-Wolf In reply to the-last-jennicorn [2008-11-02 13:06:39 +0000 UTC]

I think, deep down, most of us fans believe he'll be forgiven. He did something very noble, protecting an innocent child.

Plus, Greg Weisman has said that Oberon still cares for Puck, and probably Puck for him- so I think they'll get over themselves. Gonna take at least two centuries, though.

where did you get that info?!
is Greg really going to make that happen?
I hope it's true
