Description Okay, last one, I promise. I took too many decent shots here. Very photogenic place. Hopefully they're all different enough to warrant a view.

This is a very nicely composed and executed shot. I love the range of colour and the sharpness and clarity of both the foreground interest and the background. The border is a nice touch as well. Overall a great photo, but I feel the water could be levelled out more, but that is my only criticism

Thanks.

Yeah, these were pretty high up in the air. The ones you're looking at here were probably the size of a car, all together.

beautiful capture of a very unique place (i live in reno, so i've spent a good deal of time out at pyramid)
very well balanced image, and the contrast of the arid desert, the lake, and the snow covered peaks works very well together.

Thanks, man. Yeah, I think Pyramid is my fav place that I visited around Reno. I'll definitely be headed back if I'm ever in the area again.

I'm not 100% sure about the composition, but its certainly still a fantastic image. I think maybe if the pov was rotated a degree or two to the right it would help balance the image a little more. Currently its hard to look at without your eyes constantly bouncing back and fourth from the rocks to the ocean. However this could also be seen as a good thing, hmm, its really down to personal taste here.

StarTyger [2006-04-12 15:11:09 +0000 UTC]

This is the David Muench style of landscape image:
a strong, dominating foreground.
I think "his" light tho would be much later,
or much earlier, in the day.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rhavethstine In reply to StarTyger [2006-04-12 18:27:43 +0000 UTC]

I'd agree with "his" light, too - or rather "your" light and "my" light and the general light preferred by most landscape photographers - but you've gotta make due when traveling with other people (unfortunately). This was probably a couple hours before the sun sank behind the horizon. So close, yet so far.

*stumbles in late* Wee! More tufa! The shape of these remind me of coral for some reason. If I let my imagination go, I can pretty easily picture that beautiful sky as the water's surface. I'm not sure where the mountains fit in.

Anyway, another absolutly stunning picture. I love the complexity of shapes in the mountains behind. They contrast beautifully with the rounded tufa. And that sky! *swoon* Just lovely.

And hey, don't be sorry for taking fantastic pictures!

Hey, that's the same as what I felt when I was climbing around on them. They look (and feel sharp) just like coral.

Sentiments like these are so encouraging. Thankyou.

how on earth is everything in focus?! nvmd. aperture.

Rhavethstine In reply to JVphotography [2006-04-08 08:06:08 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, Your comment reminds me that I forgot to tell you guys how big these particular formations were. If I were to lay down in one of those bowls, my feet would touch one side and my head would be resting on the other rim. In addition, this is quite high off the ground, maybe fifty feet up, but the wide angle lens just totally destroys the perspective. But it lets me catch all the scenery in one photo, so it'sa fairly worthy compromise.
