Description Okay, last one, I promise. I took too many decent shots here. Very photogenic place. Hopefully they're all different enough to warrant a view.

Have you ever been to Mono Lake, CA? There are tufas there too - amazing things. They look quite a bit different from the ones you've shown here.
Grrrreat pic - as always!

Nope, never been there, but I've seen tons of pictures. Seems like it should be on any must-see list for any self-respecting landscape photographer.

Ha! For sure! Here is a (bad) snapshot of me sitting on one : [link] I remember another, in particular, that looked like a brontosaurus.

Haha, you know what? It's kinda funny that you have turtles on the frame of that picture. I nabbed some tuffas that look like nothing so much as a bunch of one ton turtles sunning themselves on the beach. It was pretty cool. You must be a pretty decent climber to have made it up there.

hotrats51 In reply to Rhavethstine [2007-08-10 12:26:30 +0000 UTC]

How funny! I saw a turtle while I was there so that is why I added the clip art to the frame. (It was designed for a page in a memory book for my best friend.) Anyway, I'd rather rappel but in order to do so, one must climb!
I think I need to plan another trip out west. It's been far too long. Take care!

A wonderful winter shot. I've been looking at it for quite awhile. I like the feeling of depth that the foreground interest gives it, and, of course, that mineral blue sky!

Thanks, man. It's probably best that you took your time, so you didn't get lost in the barrage of DD comments.

Amazing photo, a great scenery with amazing sharpness and lovely colors. Well done work.

If you want to photograph more tufa you should consider visiting Mono Lake [link] there you can see some very amazing formations (I really have to get there again sometime, had way too little time there during my field trip)

is that close to tahoe?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rhavethstine In reply to nonomie [2006-04-28 05:55:42 +0000 UTC]

Fairly so. You can look Pyramid Lake up on a map and see that it's about 30 to 45 minutes away from Reno, which itself isn't too far from Tahoe.

Beautiful shot! I really like the mix of colors in the shot. There's not so much color as to clutter the shot, but just enough to make the shot seem really alive. I also like how you were able to maintain the sharpness in the background, very nice DOF.

Hahaha. Best. Comment. Ever.

I haven't put prints up on DA yet, because I've only recently started into the fine art of printing and getting my files ready. Whether through this site or my own, I'll let you know when that happens.

If I could make one suggestion...

The horizon is a little tilty. Unnecessarily, I would say. Otherwise the piece is great!

I agree. The subtle crookedness has been a recurring comment, actually. It is something that, if I ever go back and make a print, will get fixed. Thanks for stopping by.

wow, I think that place is the definition of photogenic, so many factors and such contrast in the surrodings, dark & warm elements. But don't get me wrong, this is displayed from your eyes, your view, your approach. A great site deserves a great photographer.
