Description
It's about time that I give a proper introduction for Halona and Ceannai's species- say hello to the Meeks! I already had some old drafts for this alien species which I recently revisited to add new details as well as to collate all the information afterwards. I'll be dividing each topic into their own separate sections so I only made a few brief and general notes on this sketchdump. The list of concepts will be below the main description, and I might not follow the order exactly but it's a good road map for what to expect.Without further ado, here is the basic draft for their profile:
Species Name: Meeks
Homeworld: Ekkurunna
Diet Type: Carnivore
The Meeks are amphibious and treacherous aliens with telepathic and telekinetic powers on a rudimentary level. They originate from the Vreshtak sector, and more specifically they are natives to the oceanic planet of Ekkurunna. They tend to keep to themselves and are usually only found in small numbers on other planets throughout the Vreshtak sector as well as wild space, and they are often treated as second-class citizens in other alien societies. As such, meeks have very mixed reputations with other alien species as they often eat visitors or those unfortunate to crash land near their territories, and they steal their technology in the process too. With only a few alien survivors able to report back, they are not widely recognized by the galactic community as a whole, giving them a falsely enigmatic and mythological reputation to some, while serving as a cautionary tale to others.
Primordial meeks were originally ambush predators from the seas and coasts, and they would use the bio-luminescence of their tail orbs to attract prey as well as mates. They gained their sentience as well as their ability to survive on land due to the machinations of a mysterious higher being during their evolution process- she granted them some of her abilities such as speech via telepathy and telekinesis. Ancient meeks have referred to this being as Zamruu, the goddess of mischief, or refer to her as simply the goddess. Not many records have survived about her interactions with the ancient meeks after a cataclysmic event occurred on the planet.
Zamruu may not have had the best intentions when uplifting the species however, perhaps out of boredom she merely wanted to observe their primal behaviors mixed with their newfound sentience for her own amusement, although not many modern meeks care to speculate on this. Whatever her reasons Zamruu passed away before completing her work, leaving the meeks to live on as an incomplete experiment.
Topic List:
1.Intro/Base Design <-
2. Zamruu: The Goddess of Mischief
3. Society: Clans and Stolen Technology
4. Matriarch/Patriarch Class Meeks
5. Banishment System
6. Mating Rituals
7. Lifespan
8. Life Cycle
9. Mutations, Defects, and Abnormalities
10. Notable Meek Clans:
- The Flotsam Clan
- The Zamruu Fanclub Clan
- The Seaweed Clan
- The Mechameek Clan

Are you still planning on making those other topics? No rush (can't rush perfection ), just curious.

The work and effort you put into these character's species is incredible! Even if I had your artistic ability I doubt I could come up with something as elaborate and intricate as this!

Thanks man! I really appreciate hearing this ^^
Admittedly, I'm still a bit shaky about stitching these concepts together but it'll be an interesting challenge. Plus I have a few new character ideas to introduce as well, particularly a bff for Halona perhaps

If they're able to shapeshift into a humanoid form, then how would that work?
The closest to a sci-fi shapeshifter I've ever gotten was vastly different.

I honestly don't know, even though I've thought about it before but right now no in-universe explanation. But I always imagined the transformation being something like space magic? Like being engulfed in bright white light as they shapeshift into another form. At least not a grotesque or painful transformation.
The alien characters having human forms and doing things on Earth is mainly just for fun, and I would consider non-canon. The main setting doesn't have Earth or at least it won't be the focus at all.

Meeks, eh? Great job on this - I love how organized and planned you made this alien species. Nice to know who or what Ceannai and Halona's people are

Thanks Travis! Yeah it was a long time coming
I plan on doing the same for Keedra's species after I cover the major topics for the Meeks. Fortunately I got the information organized just the same, I just got to revisit the visual designs >.<

Hmmm. A very interesting an original species. Sentient, predatory space "shrimp" with deceptive qualities and bright features. Very curious. I was originally going to question how the two genders have a difference in eyes, but since they are basically an experiment made for the lols, it makes more sense.
They are truly fascinating, and I like how you made their only technology stolen tech, which makes sense. I do hope to see more of this race. they are really cool and original! keep up the great work!

Thank you very much! I'm glad you like them
I do plan on showing more concepts for this race soon, and will be covering in more detail some of the points you brought up. Like Zamruu, who is next on my list and possible theories as to why she uplifted the Meeks, but yeah I guess you could say she did it for the lols, or at least not for a noble purpose or anything on top of being incomplete, which is why they would lack purpose or cohesion to become a space-faring race on their own.
I also forgot to mention that some of their technology is also based on ancient artifacts and ruins left behind by their creator and the ancient Meeks, which I'll go over on the 3rd topic about stolen tech and their society.

Oooo.... interesting.... Low level psionic abilities, sapient, but with difficulty integrating with other societies..... very interesting.
I'd kinda wanna visit them. Would be interesting to observe and try interacting with. ^v^

Thanks
They're a fickle bunch. Some clans are xenophobic, however others are extremely curious about outsiders who either crash land on their planet, or simply got lost. If they aren't hungry than they might ask you a bunch of questions and try to sell you junk they looted from derelict ships. And probably would observe just as much as you would xD
Even Meeks who are at their best at being "friendly", probably just annoy alien castaways with their constant curiosity and tinkering.

You're welcome!
Crash or get lost? Please, I for one would love to explore their world! (giggles) I've got enough skill, tech and magic that I could probably handle myself. Get away/protect myself from the less friendly ones, and talk with the others. Hopefully before someone tries to bite me and gets a bolt to the back of the throat. '^v^ That's not good for diplomacy.....
Honestly, the more you describe them, the more I kinda wanna visit them. (giggles) I'm always happy to talk with new critters, and.....um...... toooootally don't like buying random trinkets. Please ignore the large boxes of random stuff that I've bought that are sitting in my room. '^v^
Also, let's be real, they're so so cute. 0v0 I wanna hug one. ^v^

Ric-M In reply to Avitrathephoenix [2018-10-30 19:03:08 +0000 UTC]
Ohh, trust me they're pretty stubborn. Even if you're a capable space explorer, they will STILL try to get you to buy their gear, food, and trinkets. They're "necessary" in order to survive on their planet, or so they claim xD
D'aww, well shoot! I think you'd probably get along quite well with Halona, my main Meek character right now. She's just as curious about meeting new beings from other planets and probably the only one to give you a friendly hug. That's just the way she is ^^ And she would love to learn more about the world of intelligent bipeds.

Didn't I mention the boxes of stuff I've bought from random people on my travels? ~v^ Trust me, not an issue. Also, if it makes them more open to talking and makes them think I'm more gullible than I really am, you know.... I know what I'm doing. ~v^ That part isn't a worry. If any of them were to try to eat me and I had to give them a bad time.... that's more of an issue.
(giggles) I've seen your stuff of her, and she's SO cute and sweet. <3 I'd have so much fun with her! ^v^ I get the feeling that her captain and sister would get mad at us, though.....
Somehow I get the feeling that the whole magic and arcanotech thing would be our main topic of conversation, if we're being honest. People tend to be curious about it. ^v^

Oh snap, well in that case you should be alright haha. The thing with them, is that they're ambush predators. If they don't have the element of surprise than they'd probably leave you alone rather than get into a drawn out fight, they just want an easy meal.
And thanks! I'm glad you think so, she gets into a lot of shenanigans- I may be changing her role a bit when I get around to updating her character profile but her personality will still be the same
I'm sure she would be very curious about that! Two like-minded individuals curious about the other ^^

What you're saying is "keep sensors live" huh? '^v^ Not that I don't have real fast reactions, there's a reason I do the fancy flying for our computers, but I get the feeling that having a heads up would be smart....
She's the best. <3 I..... might have finally gotten around to going back and faving and commenting on a bunch of your stuff. '^v^ She's such a precious critter.
Always good! ^v^ Their psionic abilities are also interesting. Not a lot of critters I've dealt with with natural telekinesis as a species, other than by essentially deriving it from more generalized magic or psi. Very interesting! I wonder how she feels about people taking bio samples.... Nothing big, obviously. I'm not mean.
