Description
This is a political commentary on the horrorsof war in general ~ and Iraq specifically. I simply
felt the colors needed to be de-saturated
a bit. Sometimes my Satuate-O-Meter is just
set to a rather high octane...and I eventually hate it!
Original watercolor, on 140lb d'Arches etc etc

One of my all-time favorite paintings...still wonder how I did it. I was at a point
of just beginning to play around with laying plastic over wet paint, the part, here, that
makes up the draped shroud on deck, supposedly covering The Fallen, ultimately. Not sure
where I got the courage to take a wet, elephant ear sponge and wash out the paint to form
the white curve of the ship! Just to add a simple, vacated rudder, and the idea came to me
for a title. Thanks for you lovely comments and comparisons. It's has pretty colors for such
a dark idea. I kept thinking about the fact that not once did GW Bush go to the airport to
receive The Fallen , due to his most ugly war.

THANKS Again!!
It's one of my saddest pieces,
although to most, it seems happy
with all the bright colors. etc.

That's true, most people read bright colors as happy colors , but in my opinion shape is also very important. I mean - those shapes at the center of Your work for example. They're not delicate, They have some kind of pain inside - that's how I see it.

Yes, those shapes are the dead, the fallen in a worthless war,
now covered over by an anonymous shroud, to a land where they will
have already been forgotten. That represents a lot of 'pain inside.'
Especially for their families.
I truly appreciate your follow-up comments!

Really deep subject to talk about. I think You show it in really amazing way. It's hard for me to explain in english what I'm thinking, but I really appreciate Your work!

THANK you for attempting the English.
You do quite well ~ obviously a difficult subject
for any language. Fortunately, most of my
works a far more suggestive of HUMOR than
of tragedy!!! I'm not a particularly bitter OR
political person. Just wish I could play chess
better...and find a tennis partner.
Thanks for your devout appreciation!!!
Best wishes: Richard

AS is said in English, one might say I
Wear my Heart on My Sleeve. ie: I have no
trouble expressing my emotions. Comes from
my mum!
Thanks for writing...

INSANE is a good choice of words, as this piece ~ perhaps
you read what I wrote ~ deals with the insanity of war.
Glad it stopped you, long enough to write me! THANKS...

It conveys sadness and despair to me, yet there's that warm feeling behind it all... like there's still hope for us to grow up (not for those who lost their lives, though). Thank you for moving me with your art.

Probably one of my all-time favorite paintings, you have
felt exactly what I believe one should feel. I was in college
during the Vietnam War years, and I remember the suffering,
the anxiety...and we all believed the US would never, never,
NEVER get involved in a worthless war. But we were so wrong.
But I guess the idea is to conserve some hope ~ you used the
right word ~ that some day, war will be forever a thing of
the painful past. Thanks so much for writing, and such thoughtful
word! Best always:

Thank you for sharing your thoughts behind it. I always like art better that way. A colorful connection from human to human through paper or canvas.
