Despite being absolutely petrified of spiders, I like this pic. It's eyes are... Nice. But if was me, I'd be too afraid to actually shoot this in fear of it jumping on me. xD

I enjoy this image a lot albeit the two technical issues I have with it are a distraction:
A previous commentator praised its DOF and focus and certainly these were the first technical details that I also noted - and therein lies the trouble:
After the initial glance/recognition of the image, I found that my attention was continually drawn past the focal point towards a pale and blurred, vague and murky background - then sharply yanked back to the foreground again.
As a viewer, this is quite a jarring experience that, taken as a whole, detracts from the *subject* of the photograph in its emphasis on one's awareness of the photograph as an object in itself.
Personally I think that the image would benefit from either having its DOF extended slightly and sharpening the spider's hind legs just enough to soften the contrast between the fore- and background, or from raising the camera's position enough to increase the angle of view /perspective, grabbing a little more of the surface/empty space in front of the spider.
The lights reflected in the spider's eyes would have to be lowered a little to maintain their glossy sheen; hopefully a sharper focus would also kill the blurry glow from the hindlegs but aside from these minor details I loved the way the image was lit.
(The spider's eyes are also fascinating to look at, btw.)
