pulling and ratcheting are the only ways to go. i tried pushing and crocheting and that didn't get the job done at all. splendid.

RichardLeach In reply to Utanapishtim [2010-02-26 02:08:18 +0000 UTC]

Oh, thanks. It comes from all over, I'm always on the lookout, and I save it up and it piles up. The stamp on this came in the mail last year. =fredfree sent me the old picture. But the underlying pieces are usually from old books, and I have a few of them I go to time and again. An old poetry book from very early 20th century (I bought it used from abebooks.com for a couple poems I was interested in, then bought another copy to read and started cutting up the first one!), a 19th century church hymnbook (don't remember where I got that), an old automotive mechanics manual (that's where the ratchet wrench came from). I really like old books with paper that's aged a bit. Used bookstores have them, some libraries sell off their old books. Let's see - also the Sunday newspaper... sometimes an old comic book from my basement... any kind of paper is fair game.
