Description
Mixed media and paper collage on 8 x 10 inch art panel by + +State 3 of panel 6 of round 5 by the international collage collaboration group
After Jakub's wondrous beginning and Jean-Daniel's excellent additions, this panel did not need drama, so I tried to enter the ongoing conversation quietly.

It could certainly have been declared finished after you added to Jakub's beginning - but I managed to add to it and Isabelle then did extremely well when it went to her. There were ways to enter the conversation

i like how you smoothed away the previous 'turbulence'...
this must be so amusing!

thanks
it's a lot of fun! one has to do it thoughtfully - but not too seriously. it's really a great group of artists working together here.

i guess that balance might not be easy sometimes. i'm afraid i would hesitate a lot, wondering how my 'interference' would be accepted by the previous artists... . it's certainly challenging and fun, i'm sure

that's right, this is the fourth time i've done it so i'm more comfortable with it - i was very nervous the first time! you can't be afraid of affecting what the previous artists did but you have to show it respect as well

Beautiful work! It's so awesome to follow the road of its creation and how it grows, step by step, with hands and imagination of each artist.
The idea of 7panels is apsolutely amazing!! Every piece of art has its story, yours are travelers whose stories are created by every visit, moments, time and people they met.

My favorite part is the small section of tan paper that hangs down and looks like a man's pant leg and shoe (from that era).

Yes, that draws the eye and it's really good. I like Jean-Daniel's additions a lot - the counter-clockwise movement from the red overlapping text to the red empty chair to the red occupied chair, and text again. The piece was so good when I began to add to it, I didn't "improve" it - but hopefully moved it along for those to come.

Thanks. Sometimes they move along with a sort of steady flow, sometimes they make big jumps!
It was a great idea of Kat's when she began this group a few years ago.
And my postal clerk gets a kick out of it when I mail one - she knows what it is because there is collage on the outside of the envelope and destinations in Europe and Canada.

How many have you done since the group started?

RichardLeach In reply to hummbuzz [2013-04-11 20:39:39 +0000 UTC]
This is the fifth round and I've taken part in four of them so I've worked on a few less than 28 panels myself, so far, round 5 still being in process. I'd have to go study the gallery but it's around 25.
And that is similar to the number of completed panels by the whole group, since there have been some glitches and hitches and snags in a couple of the rounds. But of course with seven states for each one, the number of images posted is 7 times that.

Do you circulate each of the panels in a different order amongst the group?

RichardLeach In reply to hummbuzz [2013-04-11 21:05:24 +0000 UTC]
Yes. In one round, each artist begins one panel and each artist completes one panel - and in between it is as different as possible so that one artist is not the third (for example) on three or four panels. The mathematics of it is rather complicated so it is not perfect, there is some repetition of "inner" spots but we do pretty well.
I am not sure it is possible to have seven completely different routes with each artist beginning one panel and completing a different one. B. and I were talking about it one night - she has a math degree - and we didn't reach a conclusion.
Long - but complete - answer

That's right
And it's one of those neat things where stuff that begins online enters the tangible world - it's like breaking the fourth wall in theater - only different

Furnishing the cosy inside. The actors are getting ready behind the scenes. The anticipation is growing. It's like in a theatre, just seconds before a play begins. And good job on capturing the true texture of the background - I had no camera at hand, and I knew it would be fun with the gold, with everyone picturing a different look of it.

Yes! I love that description. And the gold was such a great start, thank you for that. Now we'll see what happens on the stage when the curtain goes up I mailed it to Isabelle this afternoon and she has ideas, she says

heh , Β΄this is not a pipeΒ΄ - quoting the title of DuchampΒ΄s work . I like the texture of the canvas ( ? ) base . ThereΒ΄s many kinds of textures , your cardboards add on to the conversation between them .

Very nice additions, Richard! I know that it's primarily an artifact of the photo, but I rather like the less-saturated view shown here.
How difficult was it to cut around existing elements to add the gold foil? (nice job of doing so, by the way.)

RichardLeach In reply to VicEberly [2013-04-11 00:23:42 +0000 UTC]
Hi Vic, thanks - well, I deserve less credit or a different kind of credit than you're giving me. The gold was already there but neither Jakub nor J-D had captured it well (sorry guys!) - so what seems like my cutting ability is actually my (modest) photographic skill. I tried scanning this first and the gold was terribly dark, so I took it outside with my little Canon - and what you see here is not that far off from how it looks in person, it's bright.

Ah - I was thrown off by how green it looks in State 2. (I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't view State 1, which would have clued me in.) Thanks for the explanation!
