It's a kind of Physalis fruit - a "winter cherry". Normally they have a very bright, orange skin, but if snails eat it away, those wonderful, fine structures come to light.
It's one of my favorite fruits

I like this, especially the red lighting to right of the... I'm not sure what that is!? Anyway, Overall I do like this shot. Although the grass in the front left is kind of distracting to me, it seems as it is trying to take away focus on the main subject also theΒ lighting seems to be a bit bright in the left which is also kind of distracting as most of the view is darker. Maybe if the camera was a litter more above it could have cut out the grass a bit. But overall Great photo.

It's a lampion fruit. I've a description of the lightening process over at Yourshot - I thought it didn't really fit deviantART.
Good find with the grass! Even though adding additional depth and detail to the picture, it is rather distracting.
I think the strong light contrasts make the picture rather dramatic and highlight the structure of the shell well.
