this kind of started a whole big string of litter images. here in canada, after the snow melts, there is f'n garbage everywhere. plastic mostly. and when i see it blowing in the breeze, hung up on a tree limb, or a fence. i shoot it, then i pick it up...
now i think garbage is beautiful, why recycle. kidding...

i'll put up a couple of other pieces on the homepage. enjoy. really, like the drops of water. once you start noticing flopping garbage on a strong sunny windy day. you are hooked... or you are in big trouble

enjoy

Thanks for the comment. It is a very strange image for sure. And it continues to evolve. It evolves in that each year there is a fresh canvas of garbage after the snow melts. I tend not to repeat myself and it would be easy to do with this stuff. If it blows and moves, then I notice it, shoot it, pick it up. So even though it is garbage, I still look for a variety. Do you have garbage in Britian...?!
Cheers.

we have too much garbage here. pretty much anywhere you go you'll find it, on the paths in the trees, bushes etc.
but yeah, it makes a nice picture =]

Its good to see that someone is using their talent to paint a true picture of our society and the effect we are having on the world. Very inspiring piece

Thanks for the fav and the flattering comment. Your timing is great as this image was just published in the "year-end" special edition, of B&W magazine. I am honoured to have cracked the line-up of this juicy mag, and thrilled that it is a very current project that I am working on, that got the notice.
More fuel for the fire...
Have a great year Mat and thanks again. db

Really love this one..
That thingie there might be litter, but it looks so free - even though it's still attached to those plants but still for me the feeling of freedom is very strongly present in the picture. Or maybe it's the freedom denied that makes me feel so strongly about this shot. I want to be free so hard that it hurts. Wonderful capture

glad to hear there was an impact. This whole series has made look hard at the world around me. I just returned home from a trip to Breckenridge Colorado ( snowsculpting competition) and on the delivery bus (denver to Breck) I was once again blown away by how much garbage there was strewn about, everywhere. And I could not get off of the bus. A VERITABLE GALLERY of garbage was stuck everywhere. This series will get a big boost soon when the snow melts. I had better get some garbage bags for my trunk...
There is almost something majestic about this piece of debris. Thksagain

Littering is so stupid. How hard is it to put garbage into garbage? I don't understand people that through away stuff to nature without a second though. Anyway, you managed to take a beautiful picture of an ugly thing. That's really something

This is beautiful shot, makes me curious what it would have looked like in color because the sky looks like it was beautiful...might have not kept the focus on the subject though. It is great how the clouds and the "plants" draw your eye to the subject so perfectly. Great work.

Great shot, almost mystical. This is a very symbolic shot and is very impressive.

Thanks for the comments. I throw out alot of work on the scrap heap because it is just that. But I edit hard and this (litter) is the stuff that I am hoping comes out the other end.
Glad that my message is in the images. I hope to be adding more very soon. I will be watching yours as well.

thx dr=b

I would love to. Later this evening I will take a deeper look. Right off the bat though you are doing the right thing. Shoot whatever comes to mind. It helps narrow the field and makes it easier to pinpoint your real targets. I still call what I do "found photography", and it centers around the things that most of humanity walk right past. It comes down to the details and the light. If the light is not right you just end up fighting to make an image and that is not what it is about. I have a trick that helps nail the exposure and I will let you in on that.
I tend not to crop too much. A fallback to the classic photographers. Shoot exactly what you want. Not just using a wide angle to take it all in and then remove the excess. I liked the fence image. Kind of rushed right now, but I will get back. THX DR=B

Hmm, I've always thought about doing a similar series, guess you beat me to it. I like that you used B&W instead of color like I was planning though, it gives it a better feel. Looking forward to the rest of the series!

Thanks, do not let me stop you from shooting scrap that is blowing around. It may actually become noticed. I have entered some of these images into photojournalism contests. After all, it is a social thing. I will send you a couple of images onto the e-ddress from your website and give you a look at the same image in colour and B&W. Let me know what you think and it may help you plan which way to do your work.
So far, the junk has to be fluttering for me to stop. I commute about an hour to work, 4 days a week. This stretch of highway has become very, very very very familiar
and the trash was the best thing that could have happened.
