OMG, righteousred made a background? *pigs fly by*For the dear *rwparker : his OC Izayoi, the daughter of Kagome and Inuyasha, in a scene from one of his well-written fanfics ([link] ) where she reconciles her dual nature and embraces her humanity. Go read it, it's good.

I am so happy you like it. I really wanted to do right by your character. If you have anything you would like to change (maybe she isn't how you envisioned?), I didn't flatten the layers so it would be easy for me to fix.

I think she's beautiful, and if I weren't happily married and twice her age, and if she weren't just a bunch of voltages in your machine, I'd probably fall hopelessly in love with her. Even if I had written her to fall in love with someone else.
This has been a very dark week for me, just due to Life In General, and Izayoi's beautiful smile was the best thing that happened to me all week. You have no idea how much it lifted my spirits. It's going on my wall. I wouldn't change a single pixel.

Ahh, i read those series of stories a little while ago and thought they were really lovely, and much better written than most of the crap out there.
I like the choice of clothing you gave her, it fits pretty well, and the warm colours in the night sky are quite beautiful.

Your shading looks sooooo smexshy in this too! I particularly like the hair and the cloak! Just a little crit for the arm though (her left, our right). It could use a bit of shading where the sleeve meets the skin, just to give it a bit more depth.

Okay, here's the process (warning: excessive 
Made a regular day sky with a bright blue/light blue gradient and put clouds on it (including some pure white - important later). Merge layers. I then discovered Edit>Color Balance (my new favorite thing) and fiddled with the settings until I liked it (I think I made the highlights more magenta and yellow and the shadows more cyan). Fussed with the saturation and lightness sliders too (darker, more saturated). Then I duplicated it and set it to multiply and lowered the opacity. Instant sunrise/set. Added stars.
Took some of the watercolor brushes and drew the mountains. Smudged up and down. Fussed with the color sliders again till they "matched." Same with the closer hills and grass. Decided everything was going to be purply-blue.
Other things: My new this is NO background lineart. I just painted a branch in dark brown. Then I ran the burn/dodge tool where I thought the shadows/lights would be (a total guess, lol, I'm terrible at that) Then I discovered new BRUSHES - this was a "scatter chalk brush). I put dark green behind the branch in clumps, then light green in front. There were maybe 2 other "leaf layers." Then I merged them all. Then the COLOR BALANCE slider again - made it blue/purple. Then ran the dodge tool on it again. Made a duplicate multiply layer.
torii: exact same process. Just painted on there with no lineart, dodge and burn and then darkened the whole mess and fiddled the color balance (see the pattern?) Same for rocks.
Put crappy bushes in the foreground. Played with hue, saturation and balance. Put an olive green to transparent gradient over the ground.
Looked the whole thing over and adjusted settings accordingly. I've learned that if I do things that look too damn dark and saturated in photoshop, they'll look right when converted to png and jpg, lol.
