Description
A few days ago I've seen Gauntlet of Fire. It was good, it has funny moments, it expands a little bit the world of the show, the new character called Ember is decent. I think I really enjoyed it because when it finished, I had the feeling that the whole episode had 10 minutes instead of 21. I'm glad that we received a good episode about Spike, and one which sometimes talks about predujices between dragons and ponies. One thing that I really like is that even it touches the topic a little bit, it keeps being funny. Movies that talks about predujices usually are too much dramatic and they abandon the initial comedy. For example, I think that Zootopia was an ok movie because it is trying to be a serious movie. If the movie had been much funnier (I wanted more scenes like the sloth moment), I would have loved it as an instant classic. But that's not the case.Although I have two problems with Gauntlet of Fire:
1- The second and third act is: Ember befriends with Spike, then she doesn't, and one minute later she decided to befriend with Spike. I think the episode could have been better if she decided not to befriend with Spike, then she needs his help and finally befriends with the little dragon.
2- That moment where Garble wants to finish Twilight and Rarity and they act like they have no choice or idea in a moment of the show where Twilight defeated a powerful centaur. If Twilight wasn't an alicorn, I wouldn't see it as a problem. But she has wings, she has more power. That's the reason why I made this comic.
About this comic, it's the first time that I've drawn Garble and, although I had no idea how to draw him, I had fun drawing him. And the background was made pretty quickly. And, I don't know why or how, but the face of Twilight in the last panel is really awkward.
I've seen that the next episode is called No Second Prances. But, judging for most of the screencaps I've seen, I think I'm not gonna like it too much. I hope I'm wrong.
Well, have a nice day.
EDIT: Misspell in the first panel. I fixed it.
EDIT 2: LOL! 24 comments in 13 hours! I don't usually receive that amount of comments. Thanks, guys, you're awesome!
EDIT 3: My comic appeared in Equestria Daily. Wow, I didn't expect that.

"Why DOES Twilight keep forgetting she's basically a God?" For same reason The Flash didn't finishing off his enemies in ONE milisecond. For the PLOT!!!!! xD

She defeated Tirek when she had power of four alicorns. What would be a better comparison, is that she levitade an Ursa Minor, bigger than a full house, ALONG with casting a wind spell, and levitating a part of water tower. As a UNICORN.

But don't forget the fact that Twilight is the kind of character that tends to care about how it will affect others. I doubt she'd just destroy Garble with no questions asked.

Hilarious and all, but I really don't get the "Twilight should be able to tackle any enemy because she's an alicorn" When fighting Tirek she had the power of two gods (and Cadence) added to her own, that's a bit of a power boost. And yes, she is good at magic, but being good at everyday or even advanced utility spells does not translate to being good in combat. That goes for Celestia too. We know that Luna can do combative magic, she was able to overpower Celestia and fought of every storm guard that came after her in the movie. Celestia, on the other hand, doesn't seem to have had that many problems to deal with the past 1000 years, she could very likely be more focused on utility rather than combat

Ermm, so I guess we're forgetting that Twilight had the accumulated power of Celestia, Luna and Cadance ontop of her own when she fought Tirek? And she doesn't anymore. She normally (like in this episode) has nowhere near that power, right?
Also, why do people keep having so much trouble with this? Remember the Bugbear, the Cragodile or the Tatlwurm?
Twilight was already an Alicorn those times too, but she simply knows what her limits are when she only has her own power. She either escaped from them, or fought them but had trouble as her beams were only annoying them at most. So why do people have so much trouble with this in particular?
Garble might be a jerk and not very smart, but he's still a DRAGON, even if he's only a teenager and still not very big, he's still supposed to be extremely resistant and tough.Β Definetely more than a damn panda with bug wings, at least. And we saw how Twilight's magic fared there.

While this is funny and heck and should had happened, I think there is a legitimate reason why Twilight decided not to do that.Β
Twilight and Rarity wasn't even supposed to be there at the Gauntlet of Fire, following Spike, even if they had done nothing to help or hinder his and Ember's progress through the competition. All this time, they had to hide themselves from the other dragons lest they react badly to their presence.
It's bad enough that they was eventually discovered by Garble, but if they used magic, they would had effectively intervened in the course of Gauntlet. It would had undermined the legitimacy of Spike's eventual victory as such intervention could easily be seen as both cheating and a sign of weakness in the eyes of the dragons.
All Garble or some other uppity dragon would had to do is report this to Dragon Lord Torch, and not only would the results be forfeited, Spike (And Ember, who was explicitly forbidden by his dad from attending the Gauntlet to begin with) would had been disqualified and a second Gauntlet would be restarted whereupon Garble or some other dragon would had the chance to become Dragon Lord.
This would explain why Twilight ultimately refrained from breaking out her phenomenal magical powers to save herself and Rarity when Garble threatened them. Heck, they shouldn't even had shown themselves, even if they ultimately distracted Garble long enough for Ember to intervene and Spike to get the Bloodstone Scepter.Β

Congratulations!
It's been suggested over at Derpi that if Twilight had done something like this it would have counted as interfering in the Dragonlord contest.
Still, this is frikkin awesome. Looks like Garble's blasting off agaaaaaaaaaain! [ding]

Problem:
Round 1 VS Tirek had her powered by the other alicorns and it ended in a tie.
Round 2 had her powered by the tree of Harmony.
Her power levels were back to normal there.

Even before she had wings she fought demi-gods and won but when confronted by the teens they still ran. I think its possible that some dragons might be immune to magic so attacking him might only tick him off.

TOPIC 1: She was just being a tsundere, lol.
TOPIC 2:
My reasoning for topic 2 is that Twilight probably didn't want to be the cause of an "international" diplomatic incident, possibly resulting in the dragon's declaring war on Equestria when they found out a pony had attacked a dragon.
At least that would be if I were the one writing the episode... or at least add a few lines of dialogue between Twilight and Rarity establishing the problem.
If the writer didn't think that, however, it was a bit of lazy writing, lol, but I didn't feel it ruined the episode for me. And I've seen bigger issues in the show over the years.

I can understand that detail about Twilight. But even though it's a moment I didn't like, I don't think that killed the episode or something like that, so I'm optimistic about what they made.

gutgutgut In reply to RingTeam [2016-06-04 16:50:35 +0000 UTC]
All right, then. Also, I just remembered something: the overpowering, a bit like DBZ. Twilight is immensely powerful in magic, if she solved all problems with brute magic force it could go against the "magic is friendship " theme or something similar. Although, to be fair, from the comical point of view, if that scene were played like in your comic ala Ranma 1/2 I'd fall of my chair laughing! :-D
