When I finished the season 6 in december, I thought it might be funny to do a compilation of wishes and write them in a funny way. I've made the list and then I've turn it into a comic in february. I couldn't do it before because I was working on a commission.
The last time I talked about the season 7, I said that "I have high hopes and low expectations". And then I got to the point where I'm not hyped. Not for nothing, but because I could probably be disappointed.
But, to be fair, this is a good chance to talk about the future of this show. To give you an idea of what I think about the entire show, I'll give you a quick recap:
In season 1, I loved 25 out of 26 episodes. My favourite episode of the season is Call of the Cutie, which is also my favourite episode in the entire show.
In season 2, I loved 23 out of 26 episodes. My favourite episode is Putting your Hoof down.
In season 3, I loved 7 out of 13 episodes. My favourite episode is Sleepless in Ponyville.
In season 4, I loved 10 out of 26 episodes. My favourite episode is Rarity Takes Manehattan.
In season 5, I loved 11 out of 26 episodes. My favourite episode is Crusaders of the lost mark.
In season 6, I loved 4 or 5 episodes out of 26. My favourite episode is On your marks.
I think the writers were playing safe too much in the last season. They bring Trixie back because everyone loved her in seasons 1 and 3. They bring Chrysalis back because now it's time for her to come back, not in season 3 or 4, but now. For five minutes. They made a seventh main character for the show because everyone loved Sunset Shimmer in Rainbow Rocks. Most of the episodes from the season 6 are not very interesting or creative. What does this season have? 28 pranks later? Buckball season? Newbie Dash?
Don't get me wrong, it all depends on the preferences of the fans, and this fandom has a lot of variety. But I was watching this season and the only episodes that are very creative are On your marks, Dungeons & Discords, Guntlet of Fire and the Thorax episode. It's like the Xbox One, which has Sunset Overdrive as the only interesting exclusive game.
I think the season 6 has two major problems: One is the writers are playing safe. And two, most of the episodes doesn't have an especific structure and it felt like these episodes were made for very different purposes and for very different kinds of audience. My favourite examples are the Starlight episodes. In episodes like The Crystalling, No second prances and A hearth's warming tail, we see Starlight trying to redeem herself. Each episode is a little step of her. What happens after that? She does the complete opposite thing in Every little thing she does. And it's not like she was going crazy like Twilight from Lesson Zero. She's doing it like she doesn't even care. Where's the logic of this after these three episodes? It's like the writers have a pretty wacky double personality. "Let's write this, but let's also write the opposite thing", kinda like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
I think the writers are at the point of the show where they created different episodes with different concepts and for different kinds of audience, so everyone wants the same thing no matter if the final result is inconsistent. It's not like Steven Universe or Gravity Falls. These shows have episodes inside a specific narrative direction. But Friendship is Magic has so many different directions these days that it's really hard to please everybody. It's like Sega with the Sonic games. They made Sonic 3D games, two Sonic Riders games, two crossover racing games, an edgy game, 3D games with 2D gameplay, a tv show and people still wants Sonic Adventure 3. I think that's the reason why this show is kinda like Sonic games. It has more alicorns, a vampire, an annoying and lazy comic relief, a completely different design for the changelings after many many years of absence, a volleyball episode, an episode full of pranks, the return of many known characters, fanservice...
That being said, I'm not saying the season 6 was bad, don't get me wrong. It's... average, at least for me. And I'm not saying the fans are wrong, it's not that idea either. People love the season 6 for very different reasons. That's completely understandable and it's totally cool. It's cool to have very different opinions. Imagine how boring the world would be if everyone had the same exact opinion. Imagine if everyone in the world loved Frozen, Zootopia, The revenant or The martian. In fact, I encourage you to write what you think about this season, the show and what kind of wishes you have for the future. I may am in the minority here, but I'd love to know your impressions.

Well about Pinkie Pie, I have a random theory, that might not be so wrong. You remember the Pinkie Pie episode "too many Pinkie Pies" in Season 3? Perhaps, Twilight brought the right Pinkie Pie in the mirror pool and accidently kept a Pinkie clone, which is also the reason of her craziness in the following seasons. That might really be a dark story.

Yeah, it really would. If I didn't understand wrong, Pinkie began being so crazy in Season 4 and for a part also in Season 3 and "Too Many Pinkie Pies" happened at the beginning of Season 3. Before and including that episode, the real Pinkie was still normal. I'd really be happy, if they made an episode about that in Season 9.
Besides, have you already watched Season 8 and Season 9, because I didn't see you drawing art of any of them and their new characters. However, I can assure you, that there'll be another crazy Pinkie Pie episode.

No, I haven't watched seasons 7 (except Celestial Advice), 8 and 9. I've heard things and I've seen some spoilers. I don't think I'll go back.

Oh then you probably won't watch it and I can understand it really well. But just for some info: You definitely shouldn't watch "Yakity-Sax", because it depicts a Pinkie Pie, you probably wouldn't like nor enjoy.

until this point: yes we have more CMC episodes, on episode with celestia and luna, nope starlight have enphasis, we have more lore and the reasoning appear of characters (and yes, trixie is recurrent now), until this point (or at least wiith your criteria) pinkie have good apperancesΒ

I like the "other" side of Pinkie, but it almost always overlooked in favor of her "HOLY SHIT! PARTIES!!!" attitude.
An episode where she is taken in SERIOUS consideration would be very appreciated,in Pinkie pride she doesn't want the others to see her cry for example, or the fact that she Β snapped into a psycopath because she belived her friends
abondoned her?? you can't have a character have traits like those and then throw them out the window and never look at them again..
Or maybe how she lives everyday with her unusual cartoony capabilities,that if you ask me i think there is more depth to them than the writers want us to believe (like in the first film?? how the fuck she knew already everything??
Just a hunch? yeah sure...)
Also i hope you weren't referring to her with that "lazy and annoying comic relief", i can understand that in some Eps. she do random stuff for take sake of it, but come on..

To be fair, Pinkie Pride was a nice episode, now that you mentioned it.
And yes, I was referring to Pinkie with "lazy and annoying comic relief". In the first seasons, Pinkie was a happy character who makes parties and wants everypony to be happy. But then, since season 3, she started to be incredibly annoying with screams, forced jokes and creepy faces from a Garry's Mod silly animation.
That's a pity, because Pinkie used to be my favourite character in the show. But now, she seems to be more like a tool than a character. One of my favourite examples is her appearance in Flutter Brutter. She appears not because she wants to contribute anything to the story, but because she has to scream as loud as she can. Or how about The one where Pinkie Pie Knows? That episode exists not because the writers want to introduce a new alicorn, but because the story is an excuse for Pinkie Pie to be as creepy, annoying and shouting as possible.
She's the comic relief. But I think people mistake that being a comic relief means being always annoying and loud and nothing else. If you watch some episodes from the seasons 1 and 2, you see that Pinkie speaks up many times, but she didn't get to the point where she's annoying. Since season 3 came out, the writers decided to make her loud in many episodes for many years. It's much easier that way and people will still like it anyway.
Is everyone happy with this? Yes. Are the writers going to try something likeable with her? Probably not, but I accepted it a very long time ago.

I see your points now that i think about them..
It's probably hard to came up with meaningful ideas for a character like this everytime she appear on screen,and for me,like many other ones, is always a joy when she pops up... Β
so in a way the "dumbing down" of the new writers is kinda understendable, i mean it's indeed the "easy way" to make her character...
But to be honest i was never bothered with Β these changes...
Maybe because me not being a native english speaker doesn't allow me to appreciate her (i saw you aren't either,but it's just how i am)..
Or the fact that i actually marathon'd the last seasons, so i didn't even had the time to "digest" the content i was watchin...
Or maybe just because im a "dog person", you know, the ones that takes everithing that life throw them and lives with it.
But i will try to stay sharp than before now,thanks to your arguments, and hope that the writers will come up with something nice for her,alongside everithing else..

No problem. I understood that many people like a specific character for many different reasons. I used to be really angry many years ago, but then I accepted it and I got at a point where I take it with humour.

this season was great (not awesome, that is for the season 4), as long i see the group has been changed a lot and that is great
Also, all have a reason to stay, if we recurring all new characters in every season and episode (you always say that in every review in your pics) we have a lot of extras without function (and not, isn't fanservice, is work, see her brother series, transformers, the original series ends in beast wars (3d version), also referring al the past as a functional story)
if you want more extras in stories, see the comic, ahve a more detailed level of work and less pressure (even if they have their fails)
my least favorite episode was with the CMC and gabby (very low in standars, considering the marysue character), my favorites episides was the seasons finale (a break in the routine of the mane six, the change of scenario and the disadvantage (mispellding) of magic was clever)

I don't think so. Not only we received an ending where she was the main character, but she also received thousands of different fanarts. That's enough proof that Starlight is beloved by many (I wouldn't be surprised if there are many people who said this is their favourite character in the whole show).
Besides, I wouldn't say that I hate her. I really really dislike Every little thing she does (probably one of my least favourite episodes in the entire show). Do I disagree with the directions the writers took the show in? Yes. But I don't hate her. Hate is a path to the Dark Side after all.

Probably. This is something I accepted a couple of years ago and now I take it with lots of humour, so it wouldn't make sense to be mad about it. And I'm pretty sure that there's going to be more emphasis on Starlight for that MLP movie.

To be honest, the trailers didn't really hype me. I like Starlight, but this is going to be the 4th two-parter in a row that focuses on her. Enough already... I will give it a chance, though.

Chrysalis' old voice does at least make her more menacing, I like that. If you want like a legit reason for starlight's origin story, then you may want to mentally prepare yourself cause it's a really sad story. I'm not gonna share the link yet if you're not interested.

Yes, a Celestia-dedicated episode is needed, she needs some love now.
Starlight is pretty much part of the Mane 6 as friends now, not very easy to just set her aside.
Chrysalis' altered voice is really needed, she's a Zerg Queen... I mean Changeling Queen, she deserves that voice. I missed it.
Although I do find another person who can alter the voice in separate videos, even Thorax's voice is altered.
King Thorax is something can explore, like how he reforms his old kingdom to make the new changeling life more happy than ever.
But most of all I wanted, since we saw Tirek, I prefer to see our dark necromancer ram again, Lord Grogar!

Honestly, it's kind of interesting, my opinions really a bit of the reverse, or at least, I can't really say I adored season 1 nearly as much.
In season 1, I loved 16 out of 26 episodes. My favourite episode of the season is Party of One, for introducing the first major mental breakdown of the series and just being plain messed up. I also am being generous with 16; many of them I just sort of enjoyed. If I had to pick how many I would earnestly watch, 10 is the number.
In season 2, I loved 24 out of 26 episodes. My favourite episode is a tie between the finale and 'Hearth's Warming Eve'. And for most of them, I am not being generous, I genuinely adored them all.
In season 3, I loved 11 out of 13 episodes. My favourite episode is the two parter opening, which may be one of my favorites in the series. I loved the character development and I'm only being generous to two episodes, still making that a majority.
In season 4, I loved 20 out of 26 episodes. My favourite episode is Inspiration Manifestation because I genuinely found it horrifying. I'm being generous to a few episodes, but not many.
In season 5, I loved 19 out of 26 episodes. My favourite episode is a tie between Amending fences and the Crusaders of The Lost Mark. I'm not being generous to any of the episodes, I genuinely liked them
In season 6, I loved 23 episodes out of 26. Top Bolt, by far is my favorite, introducing two realistic characters and honestly I adore the deerlings. I also felt that 'Every Little Thing She Does' was a realistic return to the fact that Starlight clearly has issues with control and that pony who brainwashed others into obeying her isn't completely gone, that's not how stuff works. My only complaint is that it should have been earlier in the season rather than later, given the narrative. The logic s that she's still not perfect, and considering where she started from, her version of not perfect is a pretty low standard.
I don't know if I'm easily pleased, but I also feel like people would complain excessively if characters didn't return; too many new characters would be a massive complaint.
