Description
I worked pretty hard on this one. It went slowly but I got a lot of detail into it. Download for full size. The background is stock from . [link]
I drew this in many layers, and made another image that shows his tattoos, armor, etc.: [link]
This is one of my OC's for D&D [Forgotten Realms]. His name is Aaron and he's a half-elf and a ranger. I'll write a more detailed bio eventually, but here's a brief summary of his history:
Every turn in Aaron's life was defined by violence. He grew up with his father in a small moon-elven settlement deep in their woods. When he was about 20, his village was raided by drow and overrun. He was taken into the underdark to the drow city as prisoner, but managed to escape and make it back to the surface with the help of Mielikki, a god to whom Aaron would later pray. But with no friends or family left, he had nothing. He became a wandering loner who would defend the woods and innocent people from evil forces and sometimes act as a guide for lost travelers. He made many friends and many enemies. At times he would join forces with individuals on a mission or with groups for larger campaigns. A few of the individuals would eventually become his closest friends.

Woah, he looks respected and noble as a ranger. Aside from the outfit itself, I also like the snow on it and the swords' leaf handguards.

It's really awesome ;D but i must say.. would look cooler if that fur texture was on the whole cape.. isn't it too smooth?

Thanks!
It's a wolf fur- It wouldn't fit over the whole cape.. And I'm not sure what you mean by too smooth. You mean the cloak or the fur? The cloak is supposed to be made of wool and it does have texture but you might have to download the full-size image to see it.

Awesome!
I just ask that if other people are going to see it, that you not edit it.. I know I'm not a big-time artist, but that just means that a little bit of exposure is all I have.

Lots of people will get to see it. Its an organized play character after all.
I'm one of those gamers that goes way overboard when building a character. I buy a new die set for each character, put together a complete character folio with the character portrait on the cover, a 2 or 3 page story (which grows as the game progresses), and detailed records of everything the character does.
So your image will get cropped to fit on the cover. But worry not, you sig and url will be fully visible. though some of the cape will be off the edge of the cover.

Wow! Well that's pretty cool. It reminds me of when I played.. That's really how this series of drawings started..

Nice picture.
Is there a back story for him?
D&D is nice for creating characters, isn't it?

Oh D&D is great if you like fantasy- richly detailed settings are already laid out for you and there are limitless options..
Does he have a back story..? Well like I said, I'll post a bio eventually, but I'll edit the description here and add a brief summary.

Was just a question because I'm always interested in some character background info.
For me the system itself (especially the alignments) is a useful tool to create the character basics.

May I ask what game is he for? The snow on his shoulders looks awesome in particular.

Thanks!
Well all of my characters were originally created for D&D, [in the Forgotten Realms setting] but I never really played. It was just fun to draw them and give them personality, history, etc. This is the first character I ever made. He's my 'main' guy.. I intend to write a bio on him and my other central characters eventually.

Of course the background isn't mine, but I'll take it as a compliment anyway.

Very cool Character design, I saw all the layers and pencil drawing, I like the whole thing and It looks so coherent that IMHO it would be better if you painted the background in your style, even with reference from this or other foto It would just look even better and more artistic than pasted (thou you did it very skillfully). Congratulations of great piece.

Thank you so much! I appreciate the feedback.
I'm thinking about my next OC drawing now [The Prank II, color], but my vision for the background is so specific that I'm thinking I'll have to either draw the BG myself or possibly splice some stock images together.. But I have minimal experience with photomanipulation. If I do it myself from scratch, I fear that the quality won't live up to the vision. If I search for the right stock images, I may be searching for a very long time..
