Description
This has been something I've been working on for over a decade: a clock that ticks in D'ni time, the time system of one of the groups of people from the Myst series.D'ni time is completely different to regular time - we have three main divisions per day (hours/minutes/seconds) whereas they have four plus an extra colloquial division split in between two, we divide things based on 24 & 60 whereas theirs is divided on 5 & 25, a D'ni "day" lasts roughly 30 hours and 14 minutes and a D'ni "second" lasts roughly 1.4 seconds. Basically nothing matches up.
Like the Death Star, this D'ni clock is fully armed and operational - it's not just decoration, it works! Everything was meticulously figured out & calculated by myself, right from the basics, with no prior knowledge or training in horology or mechanical engineering. I started this when I was thirteen, back in 2000, and the finishing touches were added last weekend... in terms of the time spent on this project, I estimate somewhere around 9,000-10,000 hours. Yes, really. Some people call me crazy.
I did a presentation on their time system & presented a not-quite-finished version of my clock at Mysterium 2009; you can view the presentation here if you're so inclined. Fair warning - it may not be interesting to the average person.
Photography, painting, texturing & styling by the awesome Kate O'Brien .

This is beyond fantastic and an incredible display of passion and dedication for the wonder of MYST and URU. What an absolute labour of love it must have been stretching over so many years! The outcome is superb and it looks like a true MYST/URU gadget ready to fit straight into the games. This must be one of those things all explorers of URU would need, a must have!! I'm incredibly impressed by this on so many levels, wow, just wow

Ok, this goes right on top of the list of fanworks I quote when I'm bragging about Myst fandom.
I'm ashamed I didn't get it at first, around last year, when people told me about it: a D'ni-themed clock? What's so special about tha----YOU DON'T SAY. A D'NI CLOCK. THAT TELLS THE TIME. IN D'NI. *mind is blown* I still have trouble wrapping my head around it because it's just too amazing. Kudos, sir. A fave doesn't do it enough justice.

People told you about it? Now I'm curious - what did they say?

Not enough to give it justice, apparently I can't even remember where I read it - terrible memory, sorry... it was along the line of "And there's this really cool project of a D'ni clock" but from the way it was worded I got the impression that it was, you know, a clock with an Uru motif of sorts. Which is still cool, but not even remotely as cool as an actual D'ni clock

This is totally astonishing, it's incredible that you really made it. I love the design reffering to Ahnonay symbols.

The similarity to the stained glass in the Ahnonay Cathedral was a complete coincidence at first - I designed the insides and noticed that the gear layout happened to be very close to the stained glass design. So I decided to use that as my decorating motif.
