This is so neat! I have a similar concept for a dragon-like critter in my fantasy world. They're part of a really specific symbiotic relationship in nature. Mine tend to take after fireflies in their appearance, but the idea of them living on flower pollen is similar! This is so neat!

It is. I had this book called "How to Steal Like an Artist" that talked about how most people think "nothing is original" is a bad thing. This author instead posited that it's a good thing, because every new thing is a mix-mash of some stuff that already exists, but with a fresh spin.

I'll admit that my dragons, while connected to a flower, are actually quite different from the ones you're working on. So far, I only have one dragon species, and they're closely connected to a single species of (fictional) flower. The symbiosis is so close that if one were to die, the other would, also. As opposed to a bunch of dragons connected each to their own species of flower, which is super cool and way more creative, in my opinion.

But I guess what I'm trying to say is that, even if the two ideas are similar, they are each unique and are both creatively viable.

True, we always create with what we know and by association   It's not a bad thing, it's just how the brain works.

I'm not really developing them as anything. I just found it fun to try designing a creature imitating a certain type of flower. The backstory tho is provided by a frien and sometimes I too tend to create little ministories for my items just because it's fun to imagine of possible settings for the creatures
So mine are not nearly developed as yours probably are XD
If I did have a speciffic creature I'm developing it would be my batkittys. those sorta just happened and now I like them too much

Of course of course ^^ there is plenty of things that are similar but unique  in their own way
