Mairon weighs his options, on the uneasy cusp of a decision he does not even realize he is making.Last page of this arc! I hope you enjoyed it! I certainly learned a lot in the process of creating it.
I will be switching styles after this page to something a little simpler so I can get through the pages at a more reasonable pace. Lots to do still! I'm not sure where this will end, but hopefully it will be an interesting journey.

I had a dream about the origins of Sauron/Mairon the Maiar, and his time spent in the service of AulΓ« the Smith. Now I am trying to put some of that dream-material into a comic.
I want to explore some of the empty margins in the history of these characters, simply because there is a lot about Middle Earth theology that frustrates me a great deal, and I feel like the motivations of a lot of the 'dark' characters are not explored in the books at all (or at least, not to my satisfaction). So this is my sort of self-indulgent, mini "Paradise Lost" for the Silmarillion. XD

Oh wow. I love these pages. I'm so drawn in by your use of colours, everything is so saturated and heavy, but at the same time so deliciously blended and smooth. It's soft and sharp at the same time and looking at it all is like eating dark chocolate; intoxicating and utterly lovely:Heart:
I really love your designs for the characters as well and how Melkor, who seems to inhabit a jealousy for the Children of Eluvatar from the beginning, has a very humanoid shape, while AulΓ«'s form sends out much more 'earthy' vibes. It's all just so pretty~

Oh man! You make me want to read the Silmarillion, but I'm pretty sure I would finish unsatisfied. Partially developed bad guys make me sad on the inside. Your versions do not make me sad on the inside.

Can't believe I missed these last two pages! I've really enjoyed your interpretation of Sauron's beginnings; I can't think of any other work that portrays him at the very beginning, when he's innocent, and even charming in his childlike ways. This page, especially, really shows his uncertainty about what he wants to do, while showing how Alue, while kind and well-meaning, seems somewhat cold and distant, while Melkor offers hot-blooded excitement.
I can't wait to see where you take this interpretation next!

a very interesting concept! I have often wondered what it would have been like...because Sauron was in the beginning one of the Mariar of Aule the Smith...Saruman was as well...I wonder if they ever met or knew one another, or even recognized eachother later on in the 3rd Age of Arda when the LOTR took place...it would be cool to see some artwork showing Sauron and Saruman when they were servants of Aule...but I really like what you have done here...I have never done an "Official work of Sauron...I drew all the Valar and have a large poster in my Gallery depicting them on here if you wanna check it out.

I am interested in exploring that intersection between Saruman and Sauron. (Saruman, at least in the trilogy, seems to be Sauron's #1 fan!) Hopefully I'll get to it in the comic, but if not, I'll at least draw a picture or write something about it, because it would be really interesting to see how they'd interact, and what their history with AulΓ« was like.

This picture... it's the whole universe full of lifetimes and pain and beauty combined into one perfect square. It's my favourite picture in my whole existence... it really is. I literally cannot express with words what it makes me feel, ;u; I really think it's some sort of destiny, that this perfection of a comic could only have been drawn by you in particular time and place in the history of our world. And you did it. You literally made your dream come true! XD
I just can look at this forever. And I will. I feel this will be the one picture that will be hanging wherever we move with Zlu, inspiring our lives forever. It's stunning, you're stunning! When I saw page 3 of this comic I didn't think this could have been even more perfect but with each page you've been proving me wrong and this is just the culmination of everything that makes life worth living. The longer I look at this the more I see. How Aule with his beard looks like a mountain himself, how his eyebrows are like weathered stones, it's all... so perfect and so sad. Melkor was pure perfection before but now with shining eyes and teeth he somehow got even more perfect, I just lose my ability to can, Rivka, this is madness XD
I want this picture in hugest format you got (you do have it without text too, right?) on my email nao, please. I am so going to make that poster happen XDDDD

It's taken me a while to reply to this because every time I open it on my browser, all I can do is sit with my hand over my face and tears misting up my eyes.
I honestly feel the same way about you and Zlu and this whole crazy thing we have together. There is a connection here that transcends internet fandoms and silliness and everything... and I'm just really, really happy that we met. :') I don't know what to say. As always, you read past the surface of what my abilities can create and into the idea behind it. <3 Thank you.

And Melkor is so beautifully sinister on this page.
Mairon's balance in the center panel really pulls the whole thing together. Beautiful layout, beautiful art, excuse me I must go have feels.

Hello, Mairon, look at your Vala, now back at Melkor, now back at your Vala, now back at Melkor. Sadly he isn't Melkor. But if he stopped making mountains and began blowing stuff up, he could act like he's Melkor.
Look down, back up, you're in the middle of a firestorm with the Ainu your Vala could act like. What's in your hands? It's a hammer that can be used to make things you love. Those things are now havoc and destruction.
I'm on a giant spider.
Now all jokes aside, this is superb. That pristine shiny mountain Aule is making so lovingly, it looks so cool! And Melkor's hair is so awesomely textured, this corrupted darkening fire 8DDD And Mairon poor doubtful baby, let me hug you, go, go to that Vala you will love! 8D You'll make up with your daddy later. We all know kids need to one day move out.
Now that I think of it, Aule could have been making a giant snowman and Melkor kicking its head off. XD If there was a kidnergarten AU that would be exactly the case XD
