Description
Chesapeake and Ohio No. 490 was built by ALCO in 1926 as a 4-6-2 (Pacific) for express trains. After World War II, the coal-hauling C&O wanted to promote steam, and converted No. 490 into a streamlined 4-6-4 (Hudson). No. 490 was extremely advanced, but never realized its full potential, as the express train customers took to the highways and airplanes in the postwar years. No. 490 was retired in 1953, and this beautiful streamliner is currently preserved at the B&O Railroad Museum, protected from the elements in the old carriage shed. It is the only surviving streamlined Hudson in the world, the Dreyfuss Hudsons, Hiawathas, and other having been scrapped. The tender numbered 1604 in the background belongs to the Allegheny, one of the heaviest engines in the world.Related content

It would be great, but I'm afraid it probably won't run again.

im sorry but i think you have your facts wrong about the Allegheny. the Allegeny's are the strongest steam locomotive in the world, the title of heaviest steam locomotive and largest in the world goes to the Union Pacific's BigBoy which weighs up to a total tonnage of 548 tons, where as the Allegeny weighs up to 544 tons. If you don't believe me then look here [link]
