Description
In 1934, JGR 3-cylinder Pacific (4-6-2) C53.43 was streamlined, following the international trend favoring streamlined express-passenger power. It remains unsure how exactly the streamlining would have affected performance, as JGR capped its expresses at 100 kilometers/hour. Depot crews complained that the locomotive took twice as long to repair and maintain due to the streamlining, and JGR decided to streamline the simpler C55 Pacifics C55.20 through C55.40. A model of C53.43 is on display at the Umekoji Steam Locomotive Museum in Kyoto. One wonders how fast this streamlined Gresley-system 3-cylinder locomotive could have run without any speed limits on the Tokaido Main Line.Related content

the Gresly locos wouldn't have run any different with no speed limits, it's a pain to get them to 100mph
also the front truck is derailed

Good catch! I was wondering why the front looked a bit strange.
