Description The Virginian Railway was established in 1907 to take coal from the Appalachian mountains to the port of Norfolk, Virginia.  Thanks to modern construction methods, the Virginian main line was fairly straight and level, letting its trains run faster than its competitors'.  Nicknamed the "richest little railroad in the world," the Virginian preferred to buy large locomotives, as seen in these models at the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke.  From top to bottom:
- 2-8-8-2 articulated steam locomotive with scale test car
- Office car
- EL-2B double-unit electric locomotive with hopper car
- Lumber car
- 2-8-4 (Berkshire) steam locomotive with hopper car
- Fairbanks-Morse Trainmaster diesel locomotive with short coal train
- EL-C electric locomotives
- GEVO diesel locomotive in Virginian livery (similar to Norfolk Southern "heritage" unit)

Is that the Virginian heritage unit on the bottom?

The model is GE-built No. 1907 and the heritage unit is EMD SD70ACe No. 1069.  But NS might have hired the model-maker to design the heritage unit's livery.

Ah. They should replace the model with the SD70ACE. I couldn't tell what builder the model was. Actually, noted rail artist Andy Fletcher designed the heritage schemes that NS used.
