Description This is a courtyard between a couple of the barracks (I believe close to Barrack #17). I am sure you can guess what the concrete wall was used for.

They placed it in the courtyard between the barracks so that the other prisoners could watch the firing squad from their windows.

Combined the color and black and white versions of the shot to highlight the flowers still placed at the "Wall of Heroes".

Auschwitz/Birkenau. Went there in August 2006.

Yeah, it was quite an experience for me. Very emotional.

Thanks! I wanted to get closer to take more, but couldn't. Not because they stopped you, you can get as close as you want. It's just the courtyard was so oppressive for me, emotionally, that was as close as I could get.

I probably would have done the same thing.
