I think that trigger guard might be problematic for finger placement; if it's constantly rubbing against your index or middle finger in combat, that's going to effect reaction time. Other than that it looks like a pretty mean, durable design.Β

Well, I get all your points, but I based it off of a design of a fellow PMGer on Flickr and his was exactly like this (only his was in the newer version of PMG). Above all, I'm a form over function guy

When it comes to guns, I subscribe to a Socratic school of aesthetics, function over form. A gun has to be durable, accurate and user friendly: the reason a gun is an iconic and sexy machine is because of its reputation as a life-taking instrument; and that reputation comes from its efficiency, its ability to kill; because guns aren't designed to be non-lethal, that's just Hollywood. Guns are iconic because they work, not because they're just handsome machines.Β
Β There's a reason the AK-47 is the freedom fighter's weapon choice, why its associated with guerrilla warfare: it's because it's meat-and-potatoes engineering (insert vodka joke here). Β The elegance of a good gun comes from its simplicity; a user of even sub-par intelligence should be able to understand, at a glance, where the ammo goes, how to load the gun, how to aim the gun, and how to fire. Sam Colt made everyone equal because the revolver is a bare-bones, utility-centric device. There's no whistles and bells about it, and that's why it's the most iconic gun in the world.Β

I understand that view, however, as you might recall, I'm from Germany so I'm just not as versed with guns - or rather their workings - as some people with more access to them (that's not just Americans ). Granted, it is sort of a lame excuse since I could easily educate myself on that topic. Truth is: I know my guns are not and will never be real, that means they don't have to ever stand the test of real life - which gives a kind of artistic freedom...Β
I have to admit though, that the awkward grip bothers me as well. But, this is a recreation of a gun a friend of mine over at Flickr did in the new version of PMG, and I simply wanted to recreate it in the old version.

I remembered, of course. I'm aware that you prefer a "for showin' not for blowin'" school of aesthetics when it comes to firearms; and I can respect that.Β
Well, your friend made a good design all in all.Β
I just thought I'd offer constructive criticism to what I'd presumed was your own work; because too often deviantart either devolves into echo chambers or flame wars: and that's because people here too sheltered from criticism. It's not like Youtube, where if you say something critical you better bullet point your reasons for saying it.Β

Ah, don't worry. I'm all for criticism, and I hope I didn't come across as not appreciating your initial comment. Getting feedback at all is difficult here on DA, especially for guns made in something many of the "real" artists see only as a toy/mere generator of sorts.
Your feedback is always welcome!

The mag is an unaltered MP40 magazine, so it's in whatever calibre that uses.
