It's really weird how they thought a totally grey and brown fantasy armours looks better than the colorfull realistic greek armours.
What i'm traing to say it's, that your version it's superior by far.

Thanks! Yeah, not sure why film producers want anything historic to be dusty and beige! haha

Yours is much more realistic. Its almost like the creators of the show just took one flimsy look at the history behind the whole story and just threw everything together with a big hollywood mixing spoon without thinking about the historical context and time it is suppossed to occure in.

yup, it's a shame that these tv shows don't put in proper research to the arms and armour. Mycenean armour looks really cool. Would be good to see it on the screen one day!

Thanks! You should go ahead and do a piece like this Troy 2004 would be a good one.

Boy if the BBC had put half as much effort in the costumes as you did in the redraw I might have looked over the whole Blackilles nonesense they put there.

(no but really they could have cast that guy as Memnon he was just as badass as Achilles and they wouldn't be miscasting because he was Ethiopian did they even doing any research at all before filming?)

Awesome redraw but the women's facial expressions on both are hilarious.
The one on the left looks like she just got a whiff ofΒ AchillesΒ BO.

Ah Black Achilies, Blackilies?

What a way to piss all over not only a mythology but an entire culture. Honestly I expected this kind of thing from the BBC.
Nice work on the armors but honestly...this series is crap.

it's crap for far more reasons than just "blachilles" though

Oh yes I am sure, its just that this is the most glaring, "in your face" kind of problem that draws the eye in first. I'd honestly take the Bradd Pitt movie over this with all it's cheesyness.

They cast a Black actor. Honestly if I was in charge of casting, I would have gone for someone Greek, or from that area of Europe. You could say he was Numidian, Ethiopian or something, in this case. Greece isn't far from Egypt and Libya. There are instances of women in ancient Greece, but it is really rare. Got to have that diversity in film nowadays!Β

In the tv series of Spartacus the gaulish rebel Enomaus suddenly become black...
it's simple, they must have their black share and their female share since it is a US production, luckily in the canadian production of Vikings despite all the non-philologic things for an "History" channel, at least they had the decency not to put black vikings, a bit too much shield maidens tho (who continue to have the right to fight amongst men even if they're not virgin anymore).

So many people don't realize that armor was colorful and vibrant. Hell, Greece and Rome were covered in elaborate pigments and dyes.

Which is why I love bronze-age cultures iver medieval cultures. So much more colour and life in comparison.

Weren't the Middle Ages hella-coulourful in reality, as opposed to the drab greys and browns currently in vogue for Hollywood representations?

Akeidamos In reply to Epistellar [2018-05-14 13:14:01 +0000 UTC]

I meant "even more colourful", as I'm sure not all peasants had rotten-brown and vomit-green shirts and pants only.
