I went on a gopher trapping trip to Milam County in Texas a few weeks back, just to try to get a couple gophers for our natural history museum before they all got gassed, and I had a chance to take some photos of one of the little buggers.They're really interesting (at least as far as rodents go

Looks like a kind of mole rat to me. Searching for 'gopher' just found that it refers to any rodent living partly under ground. Do you know what this animal really is? We don't have them here in Germany .
Somehow sad they get killed in masses, they look very cute

Google "Geomys attwateri." That's the scientific name for these guys. The common name is Attwater's Pocket Gopher, but if you refer to it as Geomys to someone, you'll look really smart.
