Description
Western Scrub Jays have proven pretty elusive for me over the years despite how common they apparently are. This guy, however, was all over the place, and I managed to get very close to him for this shot. Taken at Point Lobos State Reserve in California.Related content

Yup, it's definitely eye catching, even when the greens they're surrounded by are so vivid. It's like the color is screaming at you for your attention. BLUUUUUUUUUE!!!
*ahem* Glad you like the shot.

Which male bird doesn't have colours that scream for attention, lol?

Thank you kindly. Blue and red are two of my favorite colors to see in birds. Northern Cardinals, Pyrrhuloxia, Summer Tanagers, Blue Jays, scrub jays, Indigo Buntings, et cetera... They just look so exotic compared to their habitats. Absolutely love seeing them.
Glad you like the photo.

Scrubby jay!
I miss seeing scrub jays. No scrub jays to be found in Montana, but there is the Steller's jay, gray jay and somewhere a pinyon jay, but I've never seen one.

I would pay money to see a Steller's Jay. I don't know why, but they're high on my birding bucket list. Easy enough to find from everything I've read, but I must see one regardless. Pinyon Jay would be cool to see too. But Steller's Jay first. Obviously.

I've been hearing babies at the Oregon zoo. They're so far away though it's hard to get a good look at them. And it's hard to go birding at the zoo with all of the other visitors, of which maybe 0.0000000001% are interested in birds
California and Colorado may also be good places to see them at.
