Description
Chief Science Officer’s Log, Thurann reporting. While rogue planets may be hard to detect, they are not all that uncommon. However rogue planets with tiny satellites of ultra dense matter are… well, this is the first found by Federation science. The Captain ordered the Spaker in for a close rendezvous with the satellite, which proved to clearly be of an unnatural origin. Measuring almost 200 meters in length, the object has a mass thirty times greater than if it were made of any known naturally occurring matter. Once we are done analyzing the remote sensor results we are sending in a small science team for a closer inspection on the shuttlecraft Burton.
--------
Ship’s log… Lieutenant Xu reporting aboard the shuttlecraft Burton. Our team has been trying for three hours now to regain entrance to the U.S.S. Spaker. We embarked on the shuttlecraft for a close inspection of the object that we’d detected around the newly discovered rogue world of IPO5567. While completing a circuit of the object, there was… well, an “event”. We’re not sure what else to call it. The sensor data we gathered of the happening seems wildly irrational, supporting no conclusions we’ve been able to come up with.
The event seemed to knock out our communications with the Spaker, so we immediately returned to the ship. However the Spaker seems… well, vacant. We were waiting before the hanger doors for fifteen minutes without effect. We couldn’t even see any motion in the ship’s windows. It’s like the whole crew vanished but left the lights on.
We have been scouting the hull for alternate entry ideas and Ensign Rivaldo has a idea that’s just crazy enough to work. However, in light of this silence from the Spaker we are filled with apprehension as to what waits for us on our return.

Thanks. I love enigmatic objects like that... things that look like they probably have a purpose, but who the heck knows what it is?!?!
It's probably an interstellar can opener....

Fascinating back story. And the picture is awesome. That alien artifact almost looks like the hilt to a lightsaber.

BTW, the shuttlecraft got named "Burton" because I geek out on Big Trouble In Little China (for the 30th time) last night...
